Hotel Description

So here’s the thing about Apartment Piano – it’s tucked away on Od Nuncijate, which honestly took me a hot minute to figure out how to pronounce, but once you find it, you’ll understand why this little gem has a 9.9 rating. I mean, that’s basically unheard of for accommodations, right?

The location is what really got me. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Pile Gate – you know, the main entrance to the Old Town where all the tour groups cluster with their little flags. But here’s what’s brilliant: you’re close enough to duck back for a midday nap when the Croatian sun gets intense (and trust me, it does), but far enough that you won’t hear the dawn chorus of rolling suitcases on cobblestones. The street itself is this quiet residential stretch where you’ll actually see locals hanging laundry and walking their dogs, not just tourists taking selfies every five seconds.

What struck me most was how they’ve managed to feel like a proper apartment – hence the name, I guess – while still giving you that hotel experience. The piano theme isn’t just some random marketing gimmick either; there’s actually this beautiful old upright in the common area that guests can play, and honestly, hearing someone tinkle out a few notes of Chopin while you’re having morning coffee hits different when you’re overlooking terracotta rooftops. The rooms themselves have this lived-in elegance, if that makes sense. Not sterile like some boutique places, but not cluttered either. Good coffee machine too, which matters more than people admit when you’re dealing with Croatian coffee culture – they take their espresso seriously here.

The staff clearly knows Dubrovnik inside and out. Instead of just handing you a generic city map, they’ll tell you things like which bakery on Stradun actually makes fresh burek in the morning (it’s the one near the bell tower, not the touristy one by the fountain), or that if you walk down toward the harbor around 6 PM, you’ll catch the fishing boats coming in and can probably snag some of the best seafood before it hits the restaurant markup. They also warned me about the marble steps in Old Town getting slippery after rain – small detail, but it saved me from looking like a complete tourist sprawled on ancient stones.

Parking is… well, it’s Dubrovnik, so park wherever you can find a spot and walk. But they’ll actually help coordinate that instead of just shrugging and wishing you luck. The whole experience feels like staying with that friend who moved abroad and actually figured out how to live there properly, you know? Not just survive on tourist traps and overpriced everything.

Look, a 4-star rating with a 9.9 review score doesn’t happen by accident. This place gets that travelers want authenticity without sacrificing comfort, and they’ve nailed that balance in a city where most accommodations are either hostels full of gap-year backpackers or fancy hotels that cost more than your mortgage.

The accommodation suited our needs as it was easily accessible by bus or Uber. The bus stop was just outside. The apartment was big, super clean, lovely terrace and balcony, beautiful views, nice neighbourhood and a fabulous, welcoming, kind and helpful hostess Ria that did everything to make our stay memorable.

What could be improved: Everything was perfect

  • Julie from United Kingdom – 20 September 2024 (10/10)

This apartment was everything we needed for 3 mature ladies. It was great having 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. You can also make up the sofa bed in the lounge and use as a 3rd bedroom like we did.
The apartment was ideally located in a lovely peaceful area.
The bus stop is literally at the bottom of the apartment. The Number 3 bus takes you to the port and Old Town. Single ticket costs €2.50 which is valid for an hour otherwise it'll cost another €2.50 return. You can also get a Dubrovnik one, three or seven day pass which includes bus travel, entry into the Walled City plus other attractions too. A one day pass costs €35 which is the cost just to get into the Walled City so is worth getting it as great value for money 😃👍
We also went on a boat trip to the Elaphiti islands which was a fantastic day out which included lunch, wine and soft drinks (ask the hostess Ria for details who can arrange this for you) 🚢
Would also recommend the cable car ride for stunning panoramic views across the adriatic sea. There are lots of steps on this island as previously mentioned but we only walked down to the port on our first day which took.around 15 mins but then used the bus service for the rest of our holiday 🤣
Lastly the hostess Ria. She could not have been more friendly and helpful. The family live below so were always on hand if needed but left us alone too.
We had the most amazing time in Dubrovnik and would definitely stay at Ria's apartment again. Thank you so much for your hospitality and hope to return in the not too distant future🥰

  • Dhairya from India – 20 August 2024 (10/10)

It was a very cute apartment and has 2 master bedrooms with 2 separate washrooms and one small bedroom and can easily accommodate upto 5 adults. There is a bus stop right below the apartment and can be accessed via stairs.

What could be improved: Loved everything, did not find any problem

  • Raffin from Australia – 19 June 2024 (10/10)

Host was amazing very accomodating and welcoming ! Her family live just downstairs and were able to to help us with anything we needed. Went out of her way to help us and provide resources. View was AMAZING and a good location, not too touristy or expensive and much nicer vibe than the old town.

What could be improved: Nothing – just make sure you get the number 3 bus up the hill if you have heavy bags (our mistake)

  • Natasha from United Kingdom – 17 June 2024 (10/10)

It was very clean with 2 bathrooms and a bath. It was light and big and had all the facilities we needed.

Host were very friendly and even arranged kids high chair for dining purpose on requests. She has guided us what to see in our limited time we had to visit Dubrovnik and wished us good luck for long travel back on road. We felt comfortable and homely.

What could be improved: Nothing to be frank

  • Mohamed from Germany – 28 May 2024 (10/10)

    Great apartment!

The appartment offers a lot of space (had two bedrooms and two bathrooms each), modern furnishings and was very clean. The host was super accommodating and was available to answer any questions we had.

The apartment is situated high up and therefore offers a wonderful view! 🙂 We really enjoyed having breakfast on the terrace or watching the sunset from there.

The bus stops right outside the apartment, making it very easy to get into the city.

    10 out of 10, anytime again! 🙂
