You know what struck me first about Apartment Tonka? The address says Ploce, but honestly, you’re right in the sweet spot between the old town buzz and that quieter residential vibe that most tourists never experience. I mean, Ulica Lukše Beritića isn’t exactly a street you’d stumble upon by accident – it’s tucked away enough that you feel like you’ve discovered something locals actually know about.

The partial sea view thing is real, by the way. I was skeptical at first because, let’s be honest, “partial” usually means you’re craning your neck out the bathroom window to catch a glimpse of blue. But from the main bedroom, especially in the morning light, you actually get this lovely slice of the Adriatic framed between the terracotta rooftops. It’s not panoramic or anything, but it’s genuine – and honestly more charming than those overwhelming full-view places where you feel like you’re living in a postcard. The two bedrooms are properly sized too, not those cramped afterthoughts you sometimes get in European apartments. The main one gets the sea peek, while the second overlooks the street, which is actually pretty quiet considering you’re still within walking distance of everything that matters.

What really won me over was how the place feels lived-in but not worn down – you know that fine line between character and just needing renovation? The kitchen actually has proper counter space (trust me, this matters when you’re trying to make coffee and breakfast for four people), and the bathroom has one of those rainfall showerheads that actually works well, not just for show. The whole apartment has this authentic Croatian feel without being overly decorated with tourist-trap nautical nonsense. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no standing around hotel lobbies or dealing with key card systems that never work properly.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience Dubrovnik like someone who actually lives here. You’re about a fifteen-minute walk to the old town walls, but you’re also near where actual residents shop and eat. There’s this little bakery maybe three blocks away that opens ridiculously early and has the best burek – locals line up there every morning. Parking can be a bit tricky (it’s Croatia, after all), but the hosts really know the area and gave us specific tips that saved us from driving in circles for an hour like we did in Split.

I’ll be honest – the 9.5 rating had me wondering if it was too good to be true, but after staying there, I get it. It’s not luxury in the marble-and-champagne sense, but it’s that rare find where everything just works the way it should. The Wi-Fi is fast, the beds are comfortable, the neighborhood feels safe for wandering around at night, and you’re not paying for location convenience while sacrificing the actual experience of being in Croatia. If you’re the type who wants to explore Dubrovnik beyond the cruise ship crowds but still have easy access to the main sights, this place hits that balance perfectly.

    The location was perfect! Easy walking distance to the old town and a nearby beach, but also very quiet and private. Excellent facilities – the washing machine was an added bonus. Great communication regarding check in instructions and a great price given the above. We would definitely stay here again if coming back to Dubrovnik.

    Very clean, Mario was very accommodating and communication was quick. Location is close to old town, a few stairs to climb. Great value for money, tidy, quiet but close enough to everything. I would highly recommend.

    What could be improved: Being Dubrovnik there are a few stairs to climb to reach the apartment, wasn't a problem for us but might be for others. The bathroom door was a little noisy when closing.

    A beautiful apartment which was comfortable and had everything we needed as a group of 6. The garden/terrace area was beautiful and location was perfect. The host, Mario, was great and went above and beyond during the stay and even stored our luggage for us as we had a late flight.
