You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Apartment Van Gogh when I first walked up to Brsečinska 1 – honestly, the name made me think it might be some cheesy art-themed place with reproductions of Starry Night plastered everywhere. But this little gem in Lapad actually surprised me in the best way possible. The location is kind of perfect if you ask me – you’re away from the tourist madness of the Old Town (which, let’s be real, gets pretty overwhelming by midday), but you can still catch the bus there in about 15 minutes. What I really loved was how quiet it gets at night; you’re tucked into this residential area where locals actually live, so you hear normal life happening around you instead of drunk tourists stumbling back from bars at 3 AM.

The apartment itself has this clean, modern vibe that feels more like staying at a friend’s well-appointed place than a typical hotel. I mean, the kitchen actually has everything you need if you want to grab some fresh fish from the morning market near Gruž Port – and trust me, you’ll want to do that at least once. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, which anyone who’s stayed in European accommodations knows is never a given. One thing that caught my attention was how thoughtfully everything was set up; there are enough outlets in useful places, decent WiFi that doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, and – this might sound small but it matters – really good blackout curtains. The air conditioning works well too, which you’ll definitely appreciate during those sweltering July afternoons when even the sea breeze isn’t enough.

What really sold me on this place was the balcony situation. You get these glimpses of the Adriatic through the trees, and in the evening you can actually hear the waves if you listen carefully. The Lapad peninsula has this nice walking path along the water that barely any tourists know about – you can stroll down there in five minutes and feel like you’ve discovered your own secret spot. Plus, there’s a decent grocery store practically around the corner, and a few local konobas where you’ll eat better seafood than in most of the overpriced places near Stradun. The whole area just feels more authentic, you know? Like you’re experiencing a bit of how people actually live in Dubrovnik, not just the postcard version. With an 8.5 rating, it’s clearly doing something right, and honestly, I’d stay here again without hesitation – especially since parking is way less of a nightmare than it is closer to the city center.
