You know what struck me first about Apartment Wanda? It’s tucked away in Lapad in this quiet residential pocket where you actually hear birds in the morning instead of tour groups shuffling by at 6 AM. I mean, don’t get me wrong – you’re still only about 15 minutes from the Old Town madness, but there’s something refreshing about staying where actual Dubrovnik locals live and go about their daily business.

The apartment itself is honestly what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place – clean, functional, nothing fancy but everything works. Wanda (and yes, there really is a Wanda who seems to know everyone in the neighborhood) keeps the place well-maintained, and I appreciated those little touches like having actual coffee cups instead of those tiny hotel room things that hold about two sips. The kitchen setup is pretty decent if you’re planning to grab groceries from the Konzum down the street – which, by the way, locals shop there around 8 AM if you want to avoid the tourist crowds later. The bathroom’s compact but has good water pressure, and honestly after walking Dubrovnik’s stone streets all day, that hot shower hits different.

What really sold me on this spot was the location within Lapad itself. You’re walking distance to Lapad Beach, which gets busy during peak season but early morning or late afternoon it’s actually pretty peaceful. The Sheraton’s right there too, so you can sneak over and grab a proper cocktail if you’re feeling fancy, but I found myself hanging out more at the smaller café-bars along Šetalište Kralja Zvonimira where a beer costs half the price and you can people-watch without feeling like you’re in a tourist bubble. The 4 bus runs regularly into town, though honestly I walked most days because the route along the coast is gorgeous – just wear comfortable shoes because those hills will get you. Parking can be a bit tricky during summer months (there’s street parking but it fills up fast), so if you’re renting a car, maybe ask Wanda about spots beforehand. The whole area gets pretty quiet after 10 PM, which was perfect for me, but if you’re looking for nightlife within stumbling distance, you’ll want to stay closer to the Old Town. That 7.5 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow you away, but it’s honest, comfortable, and gives you a real taste of what it’s like to actually stay in Dubrovnik rather than just visit it.
