So I stumbled upon Apartments Mare almost by accident – well, actually my friend who lives in Split told me about it, and honestly, I’m so glad she did. It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street in Lapad, which, if you don’t know Dubrovnik, is where the locals actually live and breathe. You know what struck me first? The building has this authentic Croatian apartment feel – none of that sterile hotel lobby nonsense. When I walked up to check in, there was this lovely older woman tending to her garden next door, and she gave me the most genuine smile. That’s Lapad for you.
The thing about staying here is you’re getting the real Dubrovnik experience without the tourist circus. I mean, don’t get me wrong – Old Town is incredible and you’ll definitely want to spend time there, but coming back to Korculanska street after a day of navigating cruise ship crowds? It’s like a deep exhale. The apartments themselves are surprisingly spacious (I had the two-bedroom unit), and whoever designed them actually thought about how people live – decent kitchen space, a balcony where you can actually sit and have morning coffee, proper storage. The Wi-Fi was solid too, which matters when you’re trying to upload all those wall photos to Instagram. One small thing – the shower pressure isn’t amazing, but honestly, after walking around those ancient stone streets all day, you’re just happy to have hot water.
What really won me over was the location magic that happens here. There’s this little bakery about two minutes away where locals grab their morning bread – the smell of fresh burek drifting down the street around 7 AM is better than any alarm clock. And here’s something the guidebooks don’t tell you: the bus stop for the Old Town is literally a three-minute walk, but more importantly, you’re close to some gorgeous swimming spots that tourists never find. The owner (lovely guy, speaks perfect English) actually drew me a little map to this secluded beach area – I spent an entire afternoon there and saw maybe five other people. The 9.5 rating this place gets makes total sense once you realize you’re not just booking a room, you’re getting someone who genuinely cares about your experience in their city. Sure, it’s not fancy – there’s no pool or room service – but if you want to feel like you’re staying in Dubrovnik rather than just visiting it, this is your spot.

Apartment is located near the old town, just 4 stops away if you take Bus No. 4. The terrace is wonderful to spend the morning and evening there to admire the view.
The host was super nice and helpful with everything!

What could be improved: Needed light weight blanket as an alternative please and standard pillow
We loved the spacious living and kitchen area, making it great to have our morning breakfast. The market was down the street, so it was easy to pick up anything needed (yogurt, bananas, etc.). Our bed was extremely comfy too! The patio overlooking the Adriatic and a pomegranate tree out our window were amazing finds in the morning sun! Our host, Mare, was the best!! She made us feel very welcome! We were a 20 minute walk away from the Old Town, which we enjoyed! We also had a washing machine in our room, so we were able to wash a small load before boarding our bike/boat trip. The price seemed reasonable. Highly recommend!!
What could be improved: It was a little challenging finding the place in the dark as we were not used to the narrow streets/alleys of Dubrovnik. After we became acclimated, it was not a problem.

Owner was very kindly and she explained how to visit old town and so on. Also the location was very good, this apartment was in front of the sea.

The location was very close to the beach, view of the water and beach from the 2nd floor covered porch. Everything was newer. Kitchen had all the utensils, dishes, and pans needed. A/C worked great. Washer in the bathroom was very useful. Off street parking. Walking distance to the Old Town and beach.
very nice view from terrace, good location, near to the sea and beach. Our host was very friendly, gave us information about the city, restaurants, activities and etc. Let us check out later and gave us free parking. Absolutelly worth the money.
