First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Apartments Star 2, I’ll be honest — the name doesn’t exactly scream glamour, but sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t try too hard. This unassuming property in Lapad caught me off guard in the best way possible. The fact that I could park right on-site without worrying about parking fees or hunting for a spot in Dubrovnik already had me feeling good about my choice. You know how stressful it can be driving around Croatian coastal towns with a rental car full of luggage.
The Lapad Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in Lapad — you’re close enough to Old Town that you can easily get there, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with cruise ship crowds stumbling past your window at midnight. The neighborhood has this relaxed, residential feel that actually lets you breathe a bit. I mean, don’t get me wrong, the historic center is incredible, but after a full day of sightseeing, coming back to this quieter part of town felt like a relief. There are local cafes and small shops within walking distance, plus the beach is right there when you need to cool off.
The Accommodation
My room was simple but thoughtfully set up — everything I needed without unnecessary frills. The space felt clean and well-maintained, which honestly matters more to me than fancy decor. What struck me was how quiet it was at night; I could actually sleep without earplugs, which is saying something for a place that gets this busy during peak season. The owners clearly know what travelers actually want versus what looks good in photos. Air conditioning worked perfectly too, which you’ll definitely appreciate if you’re visiting during summer months.
Getting Around
The location really shines when it comes to exploring. You can catch buses to Old Town easily — the connections are frequent and reliable. But what I discovered is that walking along the coastal path is actually pretty pleasant, especially in the early morning or evening when it’s cooler. Takes about 20-25 minutes on foot, and you get these glimpses of the Adriatic that make the walk worthwhile. Having that free parking meant I could also drive to some of the smaller beaches and villages nearby without worrying about where to leave the car.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t a five-star resort with a spa and fancy restaurant, but that’s exactly why it works so well. The 9.3 rating makes sense when you consider what most people actually need — a comfortable place to sleep, easy access to attractions, and owners who care about your experience. Couples seem to particularly appreciate the peaceful atmosphere and the fact that you can have romantic dinners in Old Town then come back to somewhere that feels more like a neighborhood than a tourist zone. It’s the kind of place where you can actually relax and feel like you’re experiencing Dubrovnik rather than just checking it off a list.
