Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Castellum Apartments? It’s tucked away on Od Kaštela street in a way that feels like you’ve discovered something locals might actually use – not just another tourist trap. I mean, you’re literally steps from the main drag through Old Town, but somehow the noise from all those day-trippers doesn’t really penetrate here. The building itself has that weathered limestone look that screams authentic Dubrovnik, though they’ve clearly put some serious money into renovating the interiors.
The apartments themselves are honestly pretty impressive for what you’d expect in the old city. Most places this close to the walls either cost a fortune or feel like they haven’t been updated since the ’90s, but Castellum hits this sweet spot where everything feels modern without losing that Croatian character. The kitchenettes are actually functional (I’m talking full-sized fridges, not those mini bar things), and the bathrooms have proper water pressure – which, trust me, isn’t a given when you’re dealing with buildings this old. What really sold me though was the AC situation. Summer in Dubrovnik can be brutal, and these units actually cool the whole space, not just the bedroom. The stone walls help too, keeping things naturally cool during those afternoon heat waves.
Location-wise, you’re about a three-minute walk to Stradun, maybe five to the cathedral if you’re moving slowly. But here’s what the booking sites don’t tell you – you’re also really close to some of the better local spots that aren’t completely overrun. There’s this little konoba just around the corner where you can actually get a decent meal without paying tourist prices, and the morning market is close enough that you can grab fresh stuff for your kitchen. Parking is… well, it’s Dubrovnik, so forget about that. But honestly, once you’re here, you won’t need a car anyway. The only real downside I noticed was that some of the apartments face the inner courtyard, which means less natural light – though it also means it’s quieter, so pick your priority. Check-in was surprisingly smooth; they’ve got this system where someone actually meets you at the property, which beats hunting around for key boxes. With an 8.7 rating, I’d say they’ve earned it – this is the kind of place where you can actually settle in for a few days and feel like you’re living in Dubrovnik, not just passing through.

Everything we need, we can find them prepared, utensils, cooking ware (food is expensive there). The room is very cold even in spring because of the rock wall. Cleanliness is superb. Laura was very helpful and kind to meet us at pile gate to show us the way. Along the way, there's a scene in GOT being shot there, with the arc.
What could be improved: There are like hundred steps of stairs to climb up so be prepared!Yvonne from United Kingdom – 21 March 2025 (9/10)

The location is perched at the top of the hill inside the Old City very near the wall. It was quiet with a beautiful view overlooking the wall from the bedroom. One thing that stood out was how comfortable the bed was. The air conditioning is very important especially in July when we went. We are a family of four, including two small children, and this easily accommodated us for a full three weeks. Our room was cleaned regularly, and anything we requested was quickly provided. Our host was very gracious and an excellent communicator. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Dubrovnik!
What could be improved: Just a fact of Old City Dubrovnik, not specific to any one place, is that the trash has to be taken out and walked down the whole flight of stairs nearly to the main road in order to place it in the public trash bins before 8:00 AM. But the good news is that trash pickup from the street happens every morning, so you don't have to wait for any specific day. To be honest, I quite enjoyed the morning walks it forced me to take!Amalia from Australia – 27 July 2024 (8/10)
