I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to this little apartment on Biokovska ulica, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked away in a residential area that feels refreshingly normal after dealing with the tourist circus down in the Old Town. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you right off the bat.

The apartment itself is compact at 40 square meters, but whoever designed this place actually thought about how people live. The kitchen has enough counter space to make a proper breakfast (there’s a decent Konzum supermarket about a ten-minute walk away if you need supplies), and the bathroom doesn’t make you feel like you’re showering in a phone booth. The bed’s comfortable enough – I mean, I’ve definitely slept on worse during my travels through the Balkans. What really won me over was the little balcony where you can sit with your morning coffee and watch the neighborhood wake up. It’s quiet here, which is gold when you’ve spent the day navigating the marble streets of Stradun with thousands of other tourists.

The parking situation is honestly the biggest selling point if you’re driving – and in Dubrovnik, trust me, you want guaranteed parking. I’ve seen people circle the Old Town for an hour looking for a spot, sweating bullets in rental cars they’re terrified to scratch. Here, you just pull in and you’re done. The location might seem a bit removed at first glance, but it’s actually pretty clever. You’re about a 20-minute walk to Pile Gate, which sounds like a trek but it’s mostly downhill and takes you through some lovely residential streets where you’ll see actual Croatian life happening. Plus, the city buses run regularly if you’re feeling lazy or it’s particularly hot (and in summer, it gets properly hot). The host was straightforward during check-in – no unnecessary chatter, just handed over the keys and gave me the wifi password. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want after a long travel day. Look, this isn’t going to win any design awards, and the 7.7 rating reflects that it’s good but not spectacular. But if you want a clean, functional base that won’t break the bank and actually lets you experience Dubrovnik without feeling like you’re living in a postcard, this works. Just don’t expect luxury – expect authenticity, a decent night’s sleep, and the kind of relief that comes from knowing your car is safely parked while you’re out exploring one of Europe’s most beautiful cities.

  What could be improved: We were a group of four guests who booked this apartment, expecting two bedrooms and a terrace as advertised. Upon arrival, we were given a room on the bottom floor designed for only two guests, with a sofa bed set up for the other two. This was not what we paid for or expected.
  
  This bait-and-switch is unacceptable, and we feel deceived by the misleading description.
