Rooms Katja & Lara – Double Room Lara

You know what? I was honestly a bit skeptical when I first booked Rooms Katja & Lara – I mean, it’s tucked away in Old Town Dubrovnik and I couldn’t find much about it online. But walking up to the place, I immediately got why it has that perfect 10 rating. The building itself has this weathered limestone look that just screams authentic Dubrovnik, and Lara (I’m guessing that’s who greeted me) was waiting with keys in hand like she’d been watching for my taxi.

The Double Room Lara is… well, it’s exactly what you’d want if you’re the type who actually cares more about location than having a massive bathroom. I could literally hear the morning coffee routine starting up in the narrow street below around 7 AM – not annoying, just this gentle reminder that you’re staying where actual Croatians live, not in some tourist bubble. The room’s got these thick stone walls that keep things surprisingly cool even in July, and honestly, the bed was way more comfortable than I expected from a 3-star place. There’s this tiny balcony – and I mean tiny, like two-people-max tiny – but you can catch glimpses of the Adriatic between the terracotta rooftops if you lean just right. The shower situation is what you’d expect from an old building (decent water pressure, but you’re not doing any elaborate hair routines in there), and the WiFi actually worked well enough for video calls, which was a pleasant surprise.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place though – you’re literally a three-minute walk from Stradun, but far enough up one of those stepped side streets that you escape the cruise ship crowds by evening. I’d grab my morning coffee from the little place on Prijeko Street (locals go there, not the tourist traps), then wander down to the walls or the harbor when I felt like it. Parking’s obviously not happening nearby – I mean, we’re talking about Old Town here – but the taxi drop-off worked fine, and there’s a small grocery store maybe five minutes away if you want to grab water or snacks. The whole setup just felt… authentic, I guess? Like staying with someone’s Croatian aunt who happens to have impeccable taste and keeps everything spotless. It’s not fancy, but it’s exactly right for what it is, and sometimes that’s worth more than all the marble lobbies in the world.
