Chill Out – Old Town & Seaview Apartments

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Chill Out on Obodska Street – honestly, the name sounds like something a backpacker hostel would call itself. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The building itself has that solid Dalmatian stone construction you see all over Dubrovnik, and while it’s not flashy, there’s something really satisfying about staying somewhere that feels properly Croatian rather than some generic international chain.

The seaview apartments live up to their name, and I mean really live up to it. From the upper floors, you’re looking straight out over the Adriatic, and on clear mornings (which, let’s be honest, is most mornings in Dubrovnik), you can actually see the outline of some of the smaller islands. The Old Town views are pretty spectacular too – you get this elevated perspective of all those terracotta rooftops that tourists are always trying to photograph from the city walls. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays, even during peak summer season. Obodska Street isn’t one of those main thoroughfares where you’ll have tour groups marching past at 7 AM, but you’re still only about a 10-minute walk down to Pile Gate. The apartments themselves feel properly lived-in rather than sterile – good kitchenettes with actual decent coffee makers (not those terrible pod machines), and the air conditioning actually works, which honestly isn’t a given in some Croatian accommodations.

The staff here clearly know what they’re doing. Check-in was smooth, they gave me actual useful recommendations rather than just pointing me toward the obvious tourist spots, and when I had a minor issue with the WiFi, someone was up to fix it within about twenty minutes. I particularly liked that they didn’t try to oversell the place – they were upfront about things like the nearest grocery store being Konzum about three blocks away, and that if you’re planning to drive, parking can be a bit of a puzzle during July and August. The whole setup feels like it’s run by people who actually understand what travelers need rather than what some corporate manual says they should want. It’s got that sweet spot pricing too – definitely not budget territory, but you’re not paying Old Town premium rates either. If you’re the type who wants to be close enough to walk to everything but far enough away to actually relax without constant crowds, this works really well.
