Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about City Residences? The moment I walked in, it felt more like stepping into a friend’s well-appointed apartment than a typical hotel lobby. I mean, it’s tucked away on Hrvatskog Crvenog Kriza – and honestly, most tourists probably walk right past it without realizing there’s this gem of a place just sitting there. The street itself is pretty quiet, which is actually perfect because you’re close enough to hear the distant hum of the Old Town (maybe a 10-minute walk downhill), but far enough away that you won’t have drunk tourists stumbling around outside your window at 2 AM.
The thing about this place is that it gets the little details right in a way that makes you think someone actually lives here and cares about how things work. The apartments – because that’s really what they are, proper apartments with kitchenettes and living areas – have this lived-in quality that I really appreciated. The kitchen actually has decent knives and real coffee cups, not those flimsy hotel ones that burn your fingers. I spent a few mornings making coffee and sitting by the window watching locals head off to work, which sounds boring but was honestly one of my favorite parts of staying there. The Wi-Fi is solid too, which matters if you’re trying to book dinner reservations or figure out bus schedules to the islands.
What really sold me on the place was the staff – they’re the kind of people who remember your name and actually seem to enjoy helping you figure out where to find the best burek in the morning (there’s a spot about three blocks away that opens at 6 AM, by the way). The woman at reception told me about this little market on Thursdays where locals shop, something I never would have found otherwise. And look, I’ll be honest – the building itself isn’t going to win any architectural awards, and the elevator is one of those tiny European ones that makes you question whether you really need that second suitcase. But the rooms are spotless, the air conditioning works properly (crucial in Dubrovnik summers), and there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that doesn’t feel like every other hotel room you’ve ever been in. The location means you can walk to everything that matters – the Old Town, the cable car, decent restaurants that aren’t tourist traps – but you’re also in a real neighborhood where you can grab groceries or just sit in a café and watch actual life happen around you.

The owner is very helpful. The apartment is very well connected to the old town via the buses that stop just outside. There are supermarkets, bakeries, cafés etc in the close vicinity. A parking space was available for our car. The room and bathroom were clean and spacious, the bed very comfortable.

Close to Old Town. There’s a bus stop in front of the building with several buses going to Old Town. Bus 10 goes to Cavtat. There is a supermarket and bakery nearby. The host Paula was friendly and helpful. Would stay again if in Dubrovnik.
What could be improved: Would be nice if beach towels were provided and an ice machine on the floor would be highly appreciated.Kamil from Poland – 4 October 2024 (10/10)
Great place with good connection to the old city. Parking is big and with easy access. Rooms are well equipped and very quiet. Paula and Josip are fantastic, great communication, clear instructions about check-in, check-out, breakfast and parking location.

Property was conveniently located near port, with easy access to shops, the main bus station as well as bus stops, markets, restaurants and about 25-30 minute walk to the main town and to the nearest beach (Lapad). While a bit out of the way, it is worth it, and any walk or short bus ride to the old town is through incredibly beautiful, scenic routes. Room was clean, spacious and the bed and pillows were so fluffy and big, I've never slept that well in a hotel in my entire life! Kettle, mini fridge, plenty of cupboard storage if needed, a large bathroom, television and balcony with stunning view (depending on level room is). During the hot few days I was there, the large, modern A.C unit was much appreciated, as it worked fantastic and was simple to operate. The host Josip who met me for check in came out to find me when i messaged saying I had got lost trying to get to residence, and took me there, explained everything in great detail and both hosts were very responsive and accessible for assistance through phone call or text. As a solo female traveller I wanted somewhere modern, safe and pleasant to stay where I would feel comfortable and at ease, and City Residence absolutely fit the bill. Would definitely recommend this place if visiting Dubrovnik, and I would definitely stay here again if I ever return!!
