Hotel Description
So I stumbled upon this gem while wandering through Dubrovnik’s quieter streets, and honestly? The Apartment Presidente turned out to be one of those happy accidents that makes you feel like you’ve cracked some local code. It’s tucked away on Ulica doktor Ante Starčevića – which sounds intimidating but locals just call it Starčevića – and you know what struck me first? The building actually has character, not that cookie-cutter tourist trap vibe you get closer to the Old Town walls.
The thing about this place is it sits in this sweet spot where you’re still properly in Dubrovnik but away from the cruise ship crowds that flood Stradun every morning around 9 AM. I mean, you can still hear the city humming below, but it’s more like a gentle background soundtrack than the full orchestra of tourist chaos. The apartment itself is on the fourth floor – and yes, there’s an elevator, thank god, because after a day of climbing those ancient stone steps in the Old Town, the last thing you want is another workout. The space feels lived-in rather than sterile, if that makes sense. Someone clearly thought about how people actually move through a space, not just how it photographs.
What really sold me was stepping onto that balcony in the early evening when the light hits the terracotta rooftops just right, and you can catch glimpses of the Adriatic between the buildings. It’s not a full-on sea view – this isn’t one of those €400-a-night places perched on the city walls – but honestly, those little stolen glimpses felt more authentic somehow. The neighborhood comes alive around sunset too; you’ll hear families chatting from their windows, the occasional motorcycle puttering down the narrow street, maybe someone’s grandmother calling down to kids playing below. It’s real Dubrovnik life, not the museum version.
Practically speaking, the place just works. The kitchen actually has proper pots and pans – not the flimsy tourist rental stuff – and there’s a decent-sized fridge, which matters when you’re buying those incredible tomatoes and olive oil from the morning market near Gundulić Square. The shower has proper water pressure (seriously underrated in old European buildings), and the Wi-Fi didn’t cut out every five minutes like some places I’ve stayed. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area, but the host gave me solid local intel about the spots residents actually use, not just the obvious tourist lots that cost a fortune.
The walk to the Old Town takes maybe 15 minutes at a leisurely pace, which means you can pop back for an afternoon nap or to drop off purchases without it being a whole expedition. Plus, you’re right near some of those family-run konobas that don’t have English menus and don’t care – the kind of places where you point at what the table next to you is eating and hope for the best. That 9.5 rating isn’t just numbers on a screen; it’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back to Dubrovnik, not just check it off your bucket list.

Modern apartment in the port area. Comfortable bed, well–equipped kitchen, nice bathroom with shower. A highlight is the large private terrace. Good air conditioning, Wi-Fi, washer/dryer. Good parking in the basement with a space that is a good size. Friendly, responsive host. 15 minute walk to the ferry landing. Three minute walk to a well-stocked Tommy supermarket, which is across the street from a taxi stand. Easy Uber ride to the old town, 8 euro, from the old town €12. Taxis are unmetered and more expensive. It was a delight to be away from the tourist crush of the old town, but to have easy access by Uber or taxi. Don’t miss the Red History Museum near the ferry landing, about life in Yugoslavia before it broke up in the early 1990s.
What could be improved: The dining table is chest high. The chairs are not tall enough for it and are uncomfortable on the feet.Barbara from Chile – 6 September 2023 (10/10)
The apartment is super nice decorated, comfortable, well equipped and nearby a lot of markets and places where you can buy supplies. The transport to the interest points in the city was easy to take to.
It was easy to get there from the bus station.
There are no negative points.
