The Peppina family (yeah, it’s actually run by locals, not some corporate chain) has this knack for making the place feel like you’re crashing at your Croatian aunt’s house – if your aunt had impeccable taste and knew exactly what tired travelers need. The suites are genuinely spacious, and I mean spacious enough that you can actually unpack your suitcase without playing Tetris with your belongings. The kitchenette isn’t just for show either – there’s a proper fridge and everything you need if you want to grab some of that amazing produce from the morning market near Gruž port and cook something simple. The beds are firm in that European way that somehow leaves you feeling more rested than those cloud-soft American mattresses.

Here’s what I really appreciated: Lapad Peninsula is about a 15-minute bus ride from the Old Town (bus 6 runs constantly), but it’s got its own thing going on. You’re walking distance from some decent beaches – Lapad Beach gets packed in summer, but the locals know about the smaller rocky spots along the coastline that are way more peaceful. The area actually quiets down in the evenings, which means you can sleep with the windows open and hear the cicadas instead of drunk tourists singing. There’s this little bakery about three blocks down where the coffee is strong enough to wake the dead, and the woman behind the counter started recognizing me after day two. The check-in was smooth – they actually met me at the property instead of making me hunt down some mysterious key box, and they had these thoughtful touches like local restaurant recommendations written on actual paper, not just a generic printout.

The 9.9 rating isn’t just numbers – it shows in the details. Fresh linens that actually smell like they were hung outside to dry, water pressure that doesn’t make you question your life choices, and air conditioning that works without sounding like a helicopter landing. The family clearly takes pride in this place, and it shows in how they’ve maintained everything. Sure, it’s not brand new construction, but everything feels cared for rather than just functional. If you’re the type who needs to be stumbling distance from Stradun at 2 AM, this might not be your spot. But if you want to experience Dubrovnik like someone who actually lives there – waking up to neighborhood sounds, buying groceries from local shops, taking the same bus routes as commuters – then staying at Peppina gives you that authentic slice of Croatian life while still being comfortable enough that you’re not roughing it.

  Beautifully spacious apartment 30 minute walk to the old town. Having a washer and a drier was great. We would definitely go back if we ever visited Dubrovnik again.

  We loved our stay. Pero was a very lovely host and gave us a full tour of the property as well as providing lots of information and tips about our stay in Dubrovnik. The apartment is gorgeous, clean and modern. When we asked for more towels and coffee pods he obliged with no hesitation. I'm quite short so I had to get to everything with a step ladder, which he provided. Amazing host! We will definitely come back!

  Everything was great, from the owners allowing us in early and providing welcome fruits and grocery basics to arranging a very well priced taxi on departure. The apartment is one of the best I have stayed in, brand new, loads of room with quality furnishings and top line appliances. I rarely provide reviews but felt I had to for this one
