It’s tucked into this quiet residential street in Lapad, which is probably why it works so well. You know how some accommodations feel like they’re trying too hard to be noticed? This isn’t one of those. The building has that understated Croatian charm where everything’s built to last, not to impress, and there’s something refreshing about that approach.
What actually surprised me about staying here was how the 3-star rating doesn’t tell the whole story. I mean, sure, you’re not getting marble bathrooms or a rooftop infinity pool, but the attention to detail is there in ways that matter more. The rooms are properly soundproofed – and trust me, that’s not a given in Dubrovnik where half the old buildings seem to amplify every footstep. The beds are actually comfortable (I’ve learned to never assume this), and the bathrooms have decent water pressure, which anyone who’s traveled through Croatia will appreciate. The owners clearly know what travelers need versus what looks good in photos.
The location is where Guest House Steel really shines, though you might not realize it immediately. Lapad isn’t the old town – it’s about a 20-minute walk or quick bus ride – but honestly, that’s perfect. You get to escape the cruise ship crowds every evening and actually sleep without hearing drunk tourists singing outside your window at 2 AM. There’s a decent bakery just down the street where locals grab their morning coffee, and the Lapad promenade with its pebble beaches is maybe 10 minutes on foot. The bus stop for the old town is practically around the corner, and the buses run frequently enough that you don’t feel stranded. Plus, parking in this area is actually possible, which… well, anyone who’s driven in Dubrovnik knows that’s basically a miracle. The whole neighborhood feels more like real Croatia – you’ll see families walking their dogs, kids playing in small parks, that sort of thing. It’s the difference between staying in a tourist zone and staying somewhere that happens to be convenient for tourists.

What could be improved: The linen was poor, scratchy towels and in-complete bed sheets.
Good location, beatiful property, with street parking. Beautiful view it was great having breakfast with that view. It’s a beatiful property and the host was super friendly and always answered quickly. We had many issues in the airport and arrived 2h after our estimate check in time and she was very accomodating.
Small but very well equiped kitchen, nice and hot shower.
There is a small beach nearby that’s always fairly empty.
And for cat lovers, there is a cute visitor that comes bu every now and then (like they do in the entire city)
What could be improved: I chose this property specifically because it’s saying it has free parking in the property (while others around say street parking) and it turned out the “free parking” means parking on the street. Luckly we always found parking but it was pretty full… I wonder how it is in the summer (note: weeks earlier, I did request the parking spot to be reserved)
Not a deal breaker but we wish we knew before, the kitchen and bathroom ceilling were quite low. For anyone over 1.80m it might be annoying. My partner had to hunch over and specially for showering it could be very inconvenient.
Awesome stay with a wonderful view! Awesome location! Great terrace and views and great air conditioning in main bedroom.
What could be improved: Need portable fan or ceiling fans for second bedroom and lounge in the summer.

This property is exceptional! Breathtaking views, great location, peaceful yet close to the old town. The host Zana was Absolutely everything! Our self contained apartment had breathtaking views of the sea from the main terrace 🤩 .
Waking up to that view and sounds was like a fairytale.

Must Stay! STUNNING! Beautiful property with an amazing self contained apartment with stunning surrounding gardens. Beautiful view of the coast and close access to a amazing little beach. Was welcomed by gracious owner. Free Parking on the street. Close to bus stops.
Stellar location We were so happy here, the location is absolutely stunning. The apartment itself was a bit smaller than it looked like in the photos, but that didn't bother us. We slept well and especially enjoyed the deck in the morning -- there is no better place to drink your coffee than looking out at the bay.
What could be improved: Parking was a little bit tricky -- the streets are rather narrow, and we were woken up early the next morning by a truck that needed us to move to pass by. But the workers were very kind and directed us to park a little farther down. Just double check with the host about parking options (which are a problem in general in Dubrovnik)
