Guesthouse Slavka Overview
So I stumbled upon Guesthouse Slavka almost by accident – you know how it is when you’re desperately refreshing booking sites at 2 AM trying to find something decent in Dubrovnik that won’t bankrupt you. The address on Od Srđa street in Ploce didn’t mean much to me at first, but honestly? This turned out to be one of those happy accidents that makes you feel like you’ve discovered some kind of travel secret.
The thing about staying in Ploce is that you’re actually in a proper residential neighborhood, not some tourist bubble. I mean, you can walk to the Old Town in maybe 15 minutes – and it’s a pleasant walk, not some grueling uphill death march. But here’s what I loved: you get to see how actual Dubrovnik locals live. There’s this little bakery around the corner where the owner (I think her name was Marija?) makes these incredible burek pastries, and you’ll hear real Croatian conversations instead of just English and German tourist chatter. The guesthouse itself sits on this quiet street where the most dramatic thing happening is someone’s grandmother hanging laundry on her balcony.
Slavka herself – yeah, it’s actually run by a woman named Slavka – has this way of making you feel like you’re staying with a friend’s aunt who just happens to be really good at hospitality. She knows exactly which bus to take to get to Lokrum Island (spoiler: it’s not the one all the guidebooks recommend), and she’ll casually mention that if you’re planning to hit the city walls, go right when they open at 8 AM because by 10 it’s basically a human traffic jam. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid three-star place – clean, comfortable beds, decent shower pressure, and those little touches that show someone actually cares. Nothing fancy, but you know what? Sometimes you don’t need a marble bathroom; you just need a place that feels like home after a long day of dodging cruise ship crowds.
What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night. I was worried about noise since I’m a light sleeper, but this part of Ploce just… settles down. You might hear some distant music from the Old Town if the wind’s right, but it’s more atmospheric than annoying. And parking – God, parking in Dubrovnik is usually a nightmare, but Slavka sorted that out too. There’s actually space for cars nearby, which if you’ve ever tried to navigate those medieval streets with a rental car, you’ll appreciate is basically a miracle.
The 9.7 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed there. It’s not trying to be some luxury resort – it’s just doing everything right for travelers who want a genuine experience. You’re close enough to everything that matters, but far enough from the madness to actually relax. Plus, and this might sound weird, but the morning coffee situation is surprisingly good. I’m pretty picky about coffee, and whatever setup they have going on hits the spot.
If you’re the type who needs a pool and room service, look elsewhere. But if you want to feel like you’re actually visiting Croatia instead of just checking tourist boxes, Guesthouse Slavka gets it right.

Our apartment had stunning views over the old town and a wonderful large terrace. The apartment was very clean and comfortable with everything we needed. Our host, Radmila, was lovely and met us on arrival. We were up high on the hill, as expected. Although in our 60's, we managed to walk up and down the stairs to the old town for 3 days in a row.
On arrival, our taxi took us to a pull off on the road above the apartment, then we had a short walk down a few ramps with our luggage.
Radmila organised a taxi for us on departure. We highly recommend this accommodation.

The apartment had everything you could possibly need. The view was amazing, uninterrupted views on the old town and the ocean, with a large balcony. .It was clean and very comfortable. We arrived to a lovely welcome basket, and a thoughtful gift as it was our anniversary. The lady in charge was super attentive and helpful with a request we had.

Apartment was fantastic, had everything we needed. The host, Radmilla was fantastic and was very helpful. It was mine and my partners birthday while we were there and Radmilla spent the time to notice and brought us some gifts, to wish us a happy birthday. The apartment is just a 5-10 minute walk down to the Old Town and had beautiful views from the balcony. Would highly recommend staying here.

Amazing view looking down on Dubrovnik from the balcony.
Apartment was clean, comfortable and had everything you needed.
The owners even gave us a lovely bottle of wine, biscuits and a birthday card on arrival.
Loved our time here.
Steep walk but that is to be expected with a property on a hill with unbelievable views.
Thank you.Ellie from United Kingdom – 2 August 2024 (9/10)
Amazing guesthouse would definitely stay again. The woman was so attentive and kind, let us in the apartment straightaway even though we were hours late. She also organised us our taxi back to the bus station which was very helpful and cheap!
The apartment is very clean, great bathroom and location very close to the old town.
What could be improved: Only thing is the keys are very stiff to open the doors but obviously that's fineJoanna from New Zealand – 30 July 2024 (10/10)
The view was incredible. Probably the best views in Dubrovnik of the Old Town ! Radmila was a wonderful host and helped to arrange taxi to airport.
What could be improved: Beware, the zig zag walk up the hill from cable car to reach the property.Anu from Finland – 27 July 2024 (9/10)
The apartment has everything you need, lot of space, clean, comfortable, well equipped and of course the most amazing views! Great communication with the host before the arrival. Of course there’re lot of stairs to get to the apartment, but well, that’s Dubrovnik. Would definitely stay again.
