Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places around Dubrovnik, and Hedera Estate honestly caught me off guard in the best way possible. You know how most places in Ploče are either overpriced tourist traps or completely forgettable? Well, this one’s different. The location on Frana Supila street is actually perfect – you’re far enough from the Old Town chaos to get some peace, but close enough that you can walk to Pile Gate in about 15 minutes (though honestly, I’d grab a taxi back uphill after a long day of sightseeing because those cobblestones get brutal on your feet).

What really sold me was the morning routine here. I mean, you wake up and there’s this incredible view situation happening – depending on your room, you’re looking out over the Adriatic or toward the city walls, and the light hits just right around 7 AM. The staff actually knows what they’re doing too, which is rarer than you’d think. Check-in was smooth, they spoke proper English, and when I mentioned I was traveling for a wedding, they threw in some local wine without me even asking. The rooms themselves feel more like a boutique apartment than a hotel room – there’s real attention to detail in the furnishings, and the bathrooms have that rainfall shower situation that actually works (you know how sometimes those fancy showerheads are all show and no pressure? Not here).

Here’s the thing about staying in Ploče that most people don’t realize – you’re in this sweet spot where locals actually live and work. There’s a little bakery about two blocks down that opens at 6 AM, and the woman there makes these incredible burek pastries that’ll ruin you for breakfast anywhere else. Plus, parking is way less insane than anywhere near the Old Town, and Hedera actually has spots for guests, which is honestly a miracle in Dubrovnik. The only minor thing I’d mention is that Croatian construction isn’t exactly known for soundproofing, so if you’re a light sleeper, maybe pack some earplugs – though it’s mostly just the occasional scooter, not party noise. The 8.9 rating makes total sense once you’re there for a day or two. It’s one of those places where everything just… works. You feel like you’re staying somewhere special without the pretentious four-star attitude, and honestly, that’s exactly what you want when you’re trying to explore a place like Dubrovnik without breaking the bank or dealing with cruise ship crowds every morning.
