You know what struck me first about Hedera Studio 5? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street – Ulica Andrije Hebranga – that most tourists never find, which honestly is part of its charm. I mean, you’re literally living among actual Dubrovnik locals here, not squeezed between souvenir shops and overpriced restaurants. The building itself has that solid, unpretentious Croatian architecture that doesn’t try too hard to impress, but there’s something reassuring about it.
The studio space is actually quite clever – whoever designed it understood that travelers need more than just a bed and bathroom. There’s this little kitchenette that’s perfect for morning coffee (and trust me, you’ll want to make your own rather than pay Old Town prices), plus enough counter space to spread out maps or work on your laptop. The bed’s comfortable enough, though I’d say the real winner is the shower – good water pressure, which you can’t always count on in older European buildings. What I really appreciated was the attention to small details: proper blackout curtains for those summer nights when the sun sets ridiculously late, and – this might sound weird – but the WiFi actually works consistently, even during peak tourist season when half the city’s internet seems to crawl.
Location-wise, you’re about a 15-minute walk to Pile Gate, which sounds far until you realize you’re avoiding the cruise ship crowds that flood the main drags. There’s a local bakery two blocks down that opens at 6 AM (the smell of fresh bujan will wake you up before any alarm), and honestly, the walk into the Old Town becomes part of your daily routine – you start noticing which cats hang out where, which locals are tending their tiny gardens. The neighborhood gets properly quiet at night, something you definitely won’t find if you stay within the city walls. Sure, it’s a 3-star place with a 7.8 rating, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or concierge service, but what you get is authentic and functional. The owner was responsive when I had questions, check-in was smooth, and – here’s something that matters if you’re staying more than a couple nights – there’s actually decent storage space for your stuff. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in Dubrovnik, not just visiting it.

Here is the fully story:
The apartment beneath was under construction for a few days. I couldn’t sleep well because they started at 7am. I sent the video to show how loud it was to the property reception and they didn’t do anything. They left my messages on seen and were silent to this serious issue I reported to them.
Then at my check-out day, I overslept since there’s no construction that day and I could finally sleep in peace. They ended up charging me for 40€ because I was late for 2.5 hours when checking out. The extra charging fee for late check-out wasn’t notified in advance. 40€ is more than half of the price I paid for a night of stay in this property, which I found it very ridiculous.
I acted on respect to tell them via messages that I bumped into the cleaning lady, which I am sorry and I would leave soon. Then they called me immediately three times and said they’re sending someone to the property to charge me for 40€ for the 2.5 hours of longer stay. Why weren’t they this fast and responsive when I told them how loud the construction was at 7am??
They did not show any flexibility to me and if I were an awful customer, I could have chosen not to inform the reception nor to apologize that I bumped into the cleaning lady. Moreover, if they were that urgent to clean the apartment I was staying to pass it to the next client, they could have come earlier, not 12:30pm and ended up reasoning themselves “after I texted and informed them” that if they don’t charge me, it is not fair for the next client.
The whole experience has shown they did not care for their customers. All they care is to charge me extra and blamed it on me that I should have been aware that the check out time is at 10am. If you are a traveler looking for good value of money and good accommodation experience with decent customer services, this is not where you are looking for.
