Hotel Description

Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Dubrovnik’s Old Town, and La Vita e Bella VII honestly surprised me. The name’s a bit much – I mean, they’ve got seven of these places now – but once you’re actually there on Ulica Plovani Skalini, you sort of forget about all that. The street itself is one of those narrow stone passages that tourists usually rush through on their way to the main drag, but that’s exactly why this spot works. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Stradun (the main pedestrian street), but you don’t get the constant clatter of rolling suitcases and tour groups at 7 AM.

The building has that whole medieval stone thing going on – which, honestly, pretty much everything in the Old Town does – but they’ve done the interiors really well. Not trying too hard to be rustic, not trying too hard to be modern either. The rooms feel substantial, you know? Thick walls mean you’re not hearing your neighbors, and trust me, that matters when you’re surrounded by other vacation rentals filled with people who think 11 PM is a reasonable time to start their balcony wine hour. I stayed in one of the upper rooms and could actually see a slice of the Adriatic between the rooftops, which was a nice surprise since they don’t really advertise views. The bathroom was properly modern too – good water pressure, which can be hit or miss in these old buildings.

What I really appreciated was how the staff actually knew the neighborhood. When I asked about avoiding the cruise ship crowds at the city walls, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic map – he told me specifically to go around 4 PM when the day-trippers are heading back to their ships, and to enter at the Pile Gate instead of the Ploče side. Little things like that make a difference. The location puts you right in the thick of things but on a side street that locals actually use to cut through the Old Town, so you get a bit of real life mixed in with all the tourist stuff. There’s a small grocery store about thirty seconds away (crucial for water and snacks at non-tourist prices), and you’re close enough to walk to Banje Beach when you need a break from all the stone and history. Parking’s obviously not happening anywhere nearby – this is medieval city planning we’re talking about – but they’ll sort out arrangements at one of the lots outside the walls. The 9.2 rating makes sense to me; it’s not luxury in the obvious way, but it gets the important stuff right without any of the pretension you sometimes get at places trading on the Dubrovnik mystique.

The place is super clean and pure luxury. Amazing views of city walls tower from bed window and form the old city

What could be improved: Great place

  • Simrun from United Kingdom – 8 May 2025 (8/10)

The loft room is absolutely gorgeous and has lovely modern amenities including coffee, tea, water, slippers, flip flops, shower essentials, toothbrushes, hair brushes etc. The bed and pillows were really comfortable and the water (in bath, shower and sink) got quite hot. Being in the loft, the room can get quite warm but the windows open and the air con is good quality. The room has modern appliances (bose sound bar, smart tv, smart blind/window, fire place) and a shower as well as bath. Please note, the shower is directly opposite the bed as is the bath and both are viewable so, unless you're with a partner it might not be the room for you. The shower also has a window (with curtains) that if open, the neighbours would be able to see you.

The shower, toilet and bath were good quality.

Staff were attentive when messaged/you had queries and, kept our luggage for us on the day we checked out. The main reception also has a shower room and if you passed by and asked for water, they'd give it which is lovely.

The apartment has a restaurant almost next door which is fairly busy but, the noise isn't really bothersome. The fridge fits a lot of bottles of water.

What could be improved: The apartment is right at the top of Old Town so, you do need to walk a lot of steep stairs to get there. From the reception collection point, it is all uphill so we would often walk on the outside of Old Town, through the back (as if you're walking to club revlin) and through the gate entrance ont he side as it's a hill rather than stairs. You will then need to do some uphill stairs but, this isn't as bad as going up all the stairs and then will need to climb more steps in the apartment to reach the loft… The staff can help with bags though. Our key card didn't work so, we had to wait for someone to bring a manual key.

There definitely is a sewage type smell in the apartment/hall way which from reading other reviews I had asked about and was told it was sorted. It wasn't terrible but, definitely present and worse on some days than others.

The room isn't serviced (we stayed 5 nights) but, if you ask for more towels, toilet rolls etc they do bring these to you. It would have been nice to have the room cleaned during the stay as, it isn't really an apartment (no cooking facilities) and felt more like a hotel room.

We had to contact the reception team twice as, we had lots of ants in our room. On both occasions they sprayed the floor with ant killer and left ant powder visible (around our bed and by the bin) which isn't necessarily safe. There were no signs that the floor had been mopped.

There seems to be building work going on next door so, we were woken up by banging most early mornings which isn't great. The room is also noted as soundproof but, I could hear our neighbours so not sure how true this is.

Such a beautiful hotel in central old town! The room was immaculate and the beds were so comfortable. We slept like babies. The staff is beyond friendly and very helpful. We also used the transport service to get to and from Dubrovnik Airport and arranging that with the staff was very easy. We wish we stayed here more than one night. We'll definitely be back in the future.

What could be improved: Nothing, everything was perfect!

Rooms were gorgeous, beautifully furnished and very comfortable

  • John from United States – 27 October 2024 (9/10)

The location was perfect, it was clean, it was well worth the money.

What could be improved: My single complaint was that there wasn’t a trash can other than a very very small bin in the bathroom area.

  • Adriell from Canada – 25 October 2024 (9/10)

Hands down one of the best stays we’ve had. They had all the amenities and the apartment was nicely decorated.

What could be improved: Be prepared for lots of stairs, but you could go thru the Buza Gate for easier access.

  • Veronica from United States – 30 September 2024 (9/10)

Most beautiful place stayed in this trip. Amazing staff, and everything is a luxury

What could be improved: Be aware of stairs! But the property helps you with luggage if needed! They are awesome
