Lux Kalifa 5 Star Exquisite Residence Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places around Dubrovnik over the years, and honestly? The Lux Kalifa caught me completely off guard. You know how sometimes you book a place based on photos and reviews, then cross your fingers it’s not disappointing? Well, this wasn’t one of those times. The moment I walked into this place on Ulica Lukše Beritića – which is actually this quiet residential street in Ploče that most tourists never find – I knew they’d gotten something really right here.
The thing about this location is that you’re far enough from the chaos of Stradun to actually sleep at night (trust me, that matters in summer), but close enough that you can walk to the Old Town walls in maybe fifteen minutes. The building itself has this understated elegance that feels authentically Croatian rather than trying too hard to be international luxury. I mean, the lobby alone made me want to just sit with a coffee and people-watch, which – let’s be honest – is exactly what I ended up doing most mornings. The staff actually remembers your name after day one, and not in that forced hospitality way, but like they genuinely care about making your stay work. When I mentioned I was looking for a good konoba away from the tourist traps, the concierge didn’t just hand me a brochure – he drew me a little map to this family place up in Lapad that I never would’ve found otherwise.
What really sets this place apart though is how they’ve managed to feel both luxurious and livable. The rooms are spacious (actually spacious, not European-hotel-pretending-to-be-spacious), and the beds are the kind you sink into after a long day of climbing those stone steps around the old city. The bathrooms have this gorgeous marble that I’m pretty sure is local stone, and the water pressure is phenomenal – which honestly matters more than you’d think after walking around Dubrovnik all day. There’s air conditioning that actually works, which in August is basically a life-saver, and the windows open wide enough to let in those evening breezes off the Adriatic. I loved how quiet it gets at night too – you can hear the distant sound of waves and maybe some late-night conversations from the cafés below, but nothing that keeps you awake. The breakfast spread was impressive without being overwhelming, with local cheeses and pastries that changed daily, plus they make this incredible Turkish coffee that I became slightly addicted to. Parking was seamless too, which if you’ve ever tried to navigate a rental car around Dubrovnik’s narrow streets, you’ll appreciate. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself extending your stay if you can, just because leaving feels premature. With a 9.8 rating, I expected it to be good – I just didn’t expect it to feel this much like a home base rather than just another hotel room.

Perfectly located. Easy access to Old Town either via 510 stairs (down) or Uber. Excellent amenities. Loved the welcome drink.
What could be improved: All was excellentSusan from Australia – 6 June 2024 (10/10)
The apartment has a spectacular view of the coast and old town. It is very spacious with beautiful modern decor and a large balcony. There were plenty of towels and quality bathroom products. The host was kind enough to stock the fridge with drinks. Set high on the hill, it is quite a walk to the town (about 500 steps) so would suggest getting a taxi or Uber back. We really enjoyed our time here and would definitely book again.
What could be improved: A minor point – only 3 dishwasher tablets for a 5 night stay.Tom from United Kingdom – 23 May 2024 (10/10)
This is one of the best places I have ever stayed having stayed in a lot of 5star hotels and apartments this is right up there. The host Miho is an amazing host and is a very helpful person who will help you maximise your stay in Dubrovnik as he has an amazing Dubrovnik guide with loads of great activities and restraunts suggestions. The apartment is amazingly clean with 2 big bedrooms and amazing closet spaces and 2 large bathrooms whilst also boasting the best view in Dubrovnik and only a €7 Uber fee to the old town. Miho is the best host I’ve ever encountered he kindly stocked the fridge with water beers and wines whilst also paying so much attention to detail with the stocking of the apartment where there is literally everything you could ever need with the kitchen filled with cooking gear and coffee machines, what really stood out was how well the bathrooms were stocked with hairdryers, curlers, straighteners and also sanitary products which is such a considerate thing to stock. Overall if you’re visiting Dubrovnik this is the place to stay and you’ll have the best host. I will be 100% returning in the future.

Melanie from United Kingdom – 7 June 2023 (10/10)
Location was perfect and the view onto The walled town was amazing. Very comfortable apartment with a lovely balcony with sofa and sunbeds. Hosts were very kind to leave a lovely welcome pack ie wine, milk etc.
All in all 10/10 all round and would highly recommend a stay here.Melina from Australia – 21 August 2024 (9/10)
The View was the stand out for us. It was absolutely breathtaking. The Lounge Area and Outdoor Area were absolutely beautiful. We had all facilities in the kitchen that were required for a comfortable stay. The Host Miho was fantastic with excellent communication.
What could be improved: It can be a bit tricky getting ubers up and down to the old town as they keep cancelling, but we managed, just allow about 12 Euro each way when you are working out the budget etc. It would be nice to have a comforter/doona on the beds.Nawaf from United Arab Emirates – 10 July 2023 (10/10)
