Luxury Apartment Libertas

So I’ve stayed at Luxury Apartment Libertas a few times now, and honestly? It’s one of those places that gets better each visit. The location on Ulica Ante Topića Mimare is actually perfect if you know Dubrovnik – you’re in Ploče, which means you’re close enough to walk to the Old Town (maybe 15 minutes on foot), but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the cruise ship crowds stumbling past your window at 7 AM. I mean, anyone who’s been to Dubrovnik in summer knows that’s worth its weight in gold.

The apartment itself has this lived-in elegance that I really appreciate. It’s not trying too hard to be boutique-y, you know? The rooms are spacious – and I mean actually spacious, not “spacious by European standards” – with these gorgeous hardwood floors that creak just slightly when you walk around barefoot in the morning. There’s something about the way the light filters through the windows in the afternoon that makes you want to just sit there with a coffee and plan absolutely nothing. The kitchen is fully equipped, which is clutch if you’re like me and prefer to grab fresh stuff from the Gruž market rather than eat out every single meal (your wallet will thank you). What really sold me though was the balcony – it’s got this partial sea view that’s especially nice during sunset, and you can actually hear the waves if you listen carefully. The Wi-Fi is solid, the air conditioning works properly (trust me, you’ll need it in July), and the whole place just feels… well, like someone’s well-loved home rather than a sterile hotel room.

The owner, Marko, is one of those hosts who strikes the perfect balance – he’s incredibly helpful when you need something but doesn’t hover. He actually gave me some insider tips about which restaurants the locals go to (there’s this little konoba about ten minutes away that’s not in any guidebook but serves the best black risotto I’ve ever had). Parking can be a bit tricky in the neighborhood – it’s mostly street parking and fills up pretty quickly, especially during peak season – but Marko helped sort that out too. The 8.5 rating feels about right; it’s not luxury resort perfect, but it’s got character and charm that you just can’t manufacture. Plus, you’re staying in a real neighborhood where you’ll hear kids playing in the courtyard and smell someone’s grandmother making lunch – that authentic Croatian experience that most tourists completely miss when they’re stuck in the touristy areas. If you’re looking for a place that feels like home base while you explore one of the world’s most beautiful cities, this is it.
