Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Dubrovnik over the years, and Mare et Silva honestly surprised me. When you first walk down Ulica Miha Pracata – which, by the way, is this narrow stone street that actually feels like old Dubrovnik instead of the touristy main drag – you might wonder if you’re going the right way. But that’s exactly what makes this place special. You’re literally inside the Old Town walls, I mean properly inside, not just “near” like so many hotels claim. The apartment building itself has this weathered limestone facade that’s probably been there longer than most countries have existed, and when you step inside, there’s this cool, almost cave-like feeling that’s absolutely perfect when it’s 35 degrees outside in July.

The apartments themselves are… well, they’re not trying to be some generic luxury box, you know? There’s character here – thick stone walls that actually keep things quiet (miracle in Dubrovnik), and windows that look out onto real neighborhood life, not just a parade of cruise ship tourists. I stayed in one of the upper units and could hear the bells from St. Blaise Church in the morning, which sounds romantic but honestly becomes your natural alarm clock. The kitchenette is small but functional – important because eating every meal out in the Old Town will bankrupt you, and the nearest Konzum grocery store is just outside Pile Gate, maybe a three-minute walk. What I really appreciated was the air conditioning that actually works (not always a given in these old buildings) and the fact that the Wi-Fi reaches every corner, even the bathroom. The furnishing is sort of modern-meets-medieval – clean lines but with these heavy wooden beams overhead that remind you where you are.

Here’s what they don’t tell you in most reviews: parking is going to be your biggest headache, not the apartment itself. There’s no hotel parking, obviously – you’re in a 1,400-year-old city center – so you’ll be using the public garage up the hill, which means dragging your luggage down those infamous stone steps. But honestly? Once you’re settled in, you won’t want to leave anyway. You can walk to Stradun in two minutes, but more importantly, you can escape the crowds just as quickly. The 8.2 rating makes sense – it’s not perfect, the shower pressure is just okay and the beds are a bit firm for my taste, but the location is absolutely unbeatable. I mean, you’re living like a local in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, hearing the real sounds of Dubrovnik after the day-trippers leave. That’s worth dealing with a few old-building quirks, trust me.
