Loved everything, starting with a warm welcome at the town gate and escort to the hotel with mini tour en route. This was a Covid postponed stay that fulfilled all expectations.

Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Dubrovnik over the years, and St. Joseph’s is one of those finds that makes you want to keep quiet about it – but honestly, a 9.6 rating means the secret’s already out. The thing is, when you’re walking down Svetog Josipa street in the Old Town, you almost miss it because it doesn’t scream “hotel” at you like some of the flashier places. It’s tucked into this perfectly restored stone building that feels like it’s been part of the city walls forever, which I mean, it probably has been.
What actually impressed me most wasn’t the usual four-star stuff – though yeah, the rooms are beautifully done with these incredible original stone details that you just can’t fake. It’s the little things that show someone really thought this through. The soundproofing is surprisingly good, which matters more than you’d think when you’re sleeping maybe 200 meters from Stradun where the late-night crowds can get… enthusiastic. The staff genuinely knows the area – I asked about a decent bakery that opens early (I’m always hunting for proper burek), and the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward the tourist spots but actually walked me outside and showed me this tiny place tucked behind the cathedral that locals hit up before work. You know what else? They’ve got this arrangement with a parking garage just outside Pile Gate, which saves you from that special kind of stress that comes with driving into Dubrovnik’s Old Town. Trust me on this one.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to be in the thick of things but not completely overwhelmed by it. You’re close enough to walk to the city walls entrance in about three minutes, but far enough from the main drag that you can actually get some peace when you want it. During summer – and I’ve been there in peak July madness – you can retreat to your room and actually relax instead of feeling like you’re camping inside a medieval theme park. The nearby streets have some genuinely good restaurants too, not just the tourist traps. There’s this little konoba called Dubrovnik that’s literally around the corner where the locals actually eat, and the woman who runs it has been there for decades. I guess what I’m saying is, St. Joseph’s doesn’t just put you in Dubrovnik – it puts you in the real Dubrovnik, the one that exists when the day-trippers go back to their cruise ships and the city breathes again.

What Our Guests Say
Staff were amazing and helpful. Location within the Old Town walls was great. Everything within close proximity.
What could be improved: Breakfast was served in the room with us being located in the annex and it not having a dining area. Limited selection with regard to what was included.
Location, staff, breakfast
What could be improved: Sewage smell from time to time
The host was amazing. The location was great and in the centre of town. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, breakfast cooked by Lana was fantastic with personal home-made cakes every morning.
What could be improved: Nothing
St Joseph’s is a delight. Beautiful decor, quality toiletries. Immaculately clean with the most attentive staff we have ever known.
Thank you St Joseph’s
What could be improved: Loved every bit.
Lovely room and friendly staff.
Everything! We absolutely loved the property. So much character and beautifully restored.
The staff were honestly wonderful.. kind, helpful and thoughtful.
What could be improved: Nothing
Situated right in the centre of the old town in a c500 year old building. Quiet location, no cars allowed in, very few guests and a focus on caring for them. Happy to have arranged airport pickup, private tours and restaurant reservations.
What could be improved: No restaurant even for breakfast, but continental was served daily to the room and adjusted to exactly what we wanted to eat.
Breakfast was excellent every morning.
What could be improved: No complaints
The location is perfect, just in the center of the old city. Many restaurants, sightseeing and activities near the hotel. The staff is super kind. Even after checkout they make additional efforts to help us to solve some problems with booking.com. Breakfast is always in the room. Our room was quite big with a small working space. We booked the hotel late at night immediately before check-in and it was a little bit overpriced but the usual price is worth it.
