Hotel Description

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Medi Apartment when I first walked up to Frana Čale 24 – honestly, the street’s pretty quiet and residential, which actually turned out to be one of its best features. It’s tucked away in Ploce, which means you’re close enough to Old Town Dubrovnik to walk there (maybe 15-20 minutes if you don’t mind the hills), but far enough out that you’re not dealing with cruise ship crowds stumbling past your window at all hours.

The apartment itself is solidly three-star – I mean, it’s not going to wow you with marble countertops or anything fancy, but everything works and it’s genuinely comfortable. The owner clearly knows what travelers actually need: decent wifi, a kitchen that’s actually functional (not just decorative), and – this was huge for me – really good blackout curtains. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet at night, which is gold when you’re trying to recover from those long Dubrovnik walking days. There’s a small Konzum grocery store about a five-minute walk away, and honestly, being able to grab breakfast ingredients and have coffee on the little balcony became my favorite part of the morning routine. The local buses run regularly from nearby, so you can easily get to Banje Beach or even take day trips to Lokrum Island without the hassle of driving into the old city (parking there is basically a nightmare anyway).

What really sold me on this place was how it felt like staying in an actual Croatian neighborhood rather than a tourist bubble. You’ll hear locals chatting on their balconies in the evening, smell someone’s dinner cooking – it’s that authentic residential vibe you can’t get in the hotels near Stradun. The 8.5 rating makes total sense to me; it’s not luxury, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. Plus, the value is pretty solid compared to what you’d pay for a cramped hotel room closer to the walls. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was planning to explore more of the Dubrovnik region rather than just hitting the main tourist spots.

Reviews

  • Nikolai from United States – 5 August 2024 (9/10)

The view is insane. You can see all of the old town, fortress, churches, and the green island of Lokrum. Ships going by. A postcard view. Its very very cool. Inside the facilities were good and clean.

What could be improved: The walk up the stairs every trip from old town is pretty brutal. We are 6 young college guys and we were all hot and exhausted from the walk. Prepare for this especially if you are already weeks into a trip as we were. Either rent a scooter, take the cheap taxi, or do some leg days! The view makes it all worth it.

  • Jeff from Canada – 15 July 2024 (7/10)

    The view was amazing

What could be improved: There were a lot of stairs. 140 stairs from the first road. 500 or so down to old town. The few warnings about stairs from other reviews did not emphasize just how terrible they would be.
There was no where to park. There was no mention that parking would be impossible. Notes should be added about not renting a car or trying to drive in the city.

  • Harsh from Poland – 31 May 2024 (9/10)

The view from the property is worth every penny you pay and everything is available in the property

What could be improved: The shower was leaking a bit and little hard to find parking

  • Szabolcs from Hungary – 12 April 2024 (9/10)

The view from the property was breathtaking, especially during the sunrise and sunset. We also had everything which were needed at the property and everything around us were really quite. We did not stay much there during the day and only for the nights it was perfect.

What could be improved: There are only a few things which I can bring up as problems. The location of the property can only be reached by taking quite a lot of steps which did not cause problem for me but a colleague of mine has bad legs and it did cause some problems for him. Having a walk sometimes felt like a light hiking trip.

  • Simon from United Kingdom – 15 October 2023 (9/10)

The view from the balcony was wonderful.

What could be improved: The steps to and from were hard work

  • Kim from Ireland – 15 July 2023 (8/10)

Stunning view. Spent many hours in the early morning and evening on balcony watching the sea and boats go by.
Clean, cool (ac),well equipped apartment with terrace and balcony. 7 mins to old town.

What could be improved: Steep walk up from old town-
    No dishwasher

  • Virginia from United States – 8 June 2023 (7/10)

Beautiful view. Nice layout of the apartment and was easy to prepare a quick breakfast.

What could be improved: The view is spectacular… but to get to that view you must walk up 150 uneven concrete steps. As well, every time you go to Old Town or the beach, you must do those steps. It was a lot!

  • Kim from Australia – 3 October 2024 (9/10)

The view over the water and old town was incredible

What could be improved: A lot of steps to climb

  • Valerijus from Lithuania – 13 August 2024 (7/10)

The view was perfect – you could see all Dubrovnik's old town and the beautiful seaside.

What could be improved: The Internet connection was bad. After 21.00 it was always disconnecting. The first evening we thought it was an incident (were communicated with the owner by WhatsApp), but it was happening every day we stayed – so we used mobile internet at the end. To reach the apartment, you can use only stairs (a lot of stairs) to bring all your luggage or just food to the apartment, and all the time you need to go out and come back.

  • Bryonys from United Kingdom – 17 June 2024 (8/10)

The views from the balcony are really great.

What could be improved: It was a surprise at how many steps there were to the apartment from the road, the location on here is not accurate. The climb was difficult and lots of people would struggle with it. They prevented us from going out more than once a day. The bed had a strange split/lump in it towards the bottom. The hot water didn't work properly in the kitchen. We tried to ask hosts questions about parking and transport before we arrived and got no answers (no parking). Also got asked for photos of our passports when we got there but no explanation of why. Put us on edge but might be a legal thing?
