Moderna Lapad
You know what?
You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Dubrovnik over the years, and Moderna Lapad honestly surprised me. The name sounds a bit corporate, I’ll admit, but this place has that sweet spot vibe where it’s polished enough to feel special without being stuffy. It’s tucked away on Josipa Pupačića – which locals just call “that quiet street behind the main drag” – and I mean that in the best way possible. You’re maybe a three-minute walk from all the Lapad peninsula action, but when you’re sitting on your balcony in the evening, you actually hear birds instead of tour groups. The whole area has this residential feel that most tourists miss because they’re all crammed into Old Town hotels paying twice as much for rooms the size of closets.
What really got me was how the staff seemed to know things before I even asked. Like, they mentioned the 6 bus route to Pile Gate during check-in (genius move, by the way – skip the tourist shuttles), and when I was heading out for dinner, the guy at reception casually mentioned that Restaurant Dubrovnik just around the corner does this incredible black risotto that’s not on most travel blogs yet. The rooms themselves feel designed by someone who actually travels – there’s a proper luggage area that isn’t just the floor next to the bed, multiple outlet types without needing adapters, and the shower pressure is what you’d hope for after walking around Croatian cobblestones all day. I noticed they’ve got this subtle local art thing going on too, not the generic Mediterranean prints you see everywhere, but actual pieces that feel connected to the place.
The Lapad location is honestly underrated, and I think people are starting to figure this out. You’ve got the beach right there – Uvala Lapad is this lovely curved bay that’s perfect for an evening swim without the Banje Beach crowds. Plus, you’re close enough to walk to Old Town if you’re feeling ambitious (about 25 minutes along the coast), but far enough away that you can escape the cruise ship mayhem when you need to. The hotel itself feels like it hit that 4-star mark genuinely – not trying too hard to be fancy, just consistently good at the things that matter. Morning coffee on their terrace while watching the peninsula wake up? Yeah, that’s going to stick with me. And honestly, with a 9.5 rating, I kept waiting for the catch, but there really wasn’t one. Just a well-run place that gets the details right.

Dubrovnik/Lapad is expensive, that's nothing to do with the host !

We were greeted by a sweet girl, that showed us the apartment. It is a newly furnished apartment with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a big living room. The shades kept the cooler air inside. The apartment is very light and has everything you wish for. Washing machine, dishwasher, oven, juice maker, coffee machine, dishes, cutlery. We even had teabags, some coffee, salt, pepper, etc The fridge is high with plenty of storage place. On each room and even in the bathroom there is an air-conditioning unit. The apartment has a nice balcony and is situated at the ground floor. We had even a hanger to dry our clothes. There is an ironing machine, too. I loved the bathtub and the 2 sinks side by side. The beds were comfortable. The pillows are a little soft, but this is the problem everywhere. The Sunset beach is 10 minutes walking. In the area there are plenty of stores and restaurants. The bus station is 150 m away. You turn left getting out of the block, then immediately turn right on a narrow street, then again right. The station is called Square 1. Bus no 4 to go to Old Town. I loved every minute spend into this beautiful apartment.
