You know what I mean? It’s tucked away just enough that you’re not dealing with the cruise ship crowds stumbling past your window at 7 AM, but you’re still close enough to everything that matters. I mean, you can literally walk to the Stradun in about three minutes – I timed it because I’m weird like that.

The thing about staying in Old Town is that most places either cost a fortune or feel like you’re sleeping in a converted storage closet. This place actually gets it right. The apartment has this lived-in feeling that’s not trying too hard to be Instagram-perfect, but it’s still comfortable and clean in all the ways that matter. The bedrooms are a decent size – not huge, but you’re not bumping into walls every time you turn around. What really sold me was the little details: proper blackout curtains (trust me, you’ll appreciate this when the sun comes up stupidly early), a kitchen that’s actually equipped for more than just making instant coffee, and – this is key – decent water pressure in the shower. The stone walls keep things refreshingly cool even in July, which is more than I can say for some of the newer places I’ve tried.

Here’s the thing about Peline ulica that most people don’t realize until they’re there – it’s this quiet little street that feels almost residential, even though you’re right in the heart of everything. The L & M folks clearly know what they’re doing because they’ve managed to create this bubble where you can actually hear yourself think, but you’re still close enough to pop out for dinner at Proto or grab morning coffee at that little place near the cathedral (you know, the one with the grumpy barista who makes perfect espresso). Parking is… well, it’s Dubrovnik, so you’re dealing with the usual nightmare, but they’ll give you the real scoop on where to leave your car without getting a ticket. I actually ended up walking most places anyway because honestly, once you’re settled in Old Town, why would you want to drive? The only minor thing I’d mention is that the stairs can be a bit much if you’re hauling heavy luggage – but that’s pretty much every place within the walls. The 8.8 rating makes sense to me. It’s not trying to be some luxury resort, but it nails the fundamentals and gives you that authentic feel of actually living in this incredible old city for a few days instead of just visiting it.
