First Impressions When I first walked up to Residence Apt.
When I first walked up to Residence Apt. 2, Marghareta, I’ll be honest — it doesn’t scream “hotel” in the traditional sense. This four-star property feels more like staying at a well-appointed friend’s place, which is exactly what makes it special. The building sits quietly on Od Gaja street, and you know what? That’s actually perfect because you’re close enough to everything that matters without dealing with the tourist crowds right outside your door.
Here’s the thing about Dubrovnik — everyone wants to be inside the Old Town walls, but honestly, being just outside gives you the best of both worlds. From Marghareta, it’s maybe a 10-minute walk to Pile Gate, which means you can easily pop into the historic center whenever you want, but you’re not paying Old Town prices or dealing with the constant foot traffic. The parking situation alone makes this location worth it — I mean, try finding a spot inside the walls and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
The apartment setup really works well, especially if you’re traveling as a couple (which seems to be their sweet spot based on other guests I chatted with). You get a proper kitchen — not just a mini-fridge and microwave situation — so you can actually prepare meals if you want to take a break from restaurant hopping. The room feels spacious and thoughtfully arranged, with enough storage that you’re not living out of your suitcase the entire time. Everything’s clean and modern without being sterile, if that makes sense.
The staff here actually know the area — not just the tourist highlights, but where locals go for coffee or which bakery has the best pastries in the morning. They helped me figure out the bus system to nearby beaches, which saved me a fortune on taxis. The building itself is quiet, which I really appreciated after long days exploring the city walls and dealing with cruise ship crowds. There’s something to be said for having a peaceful retreat to come back to. The attention to detail throughout the property makes a real difference.
Look, this place consistently gets high ratings for a reason — it delivers on the practical stuff that matters when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The combination of being close enough to walk everywhere important but far enough away to feel like you have your own space really works. Plus, having that private parking spot means you can easily explore the Dalmatian coast by car without worrying about where you’ll leave it. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, and that authenticity shows in how comfortable you feel here.

Anita is incredibly helpful. The apartment worked for us and the three teenagers with us as they were desperate to get in the pool after sightseeing! It is a bit of a trek from the old town but the views, pool and quiet area were worth it for us!

What could be improved: There are no negatives in relation to the property
The property is in a great location but be prepared to climb a lot of steps in town! Not the apartment's fault mind you. Spacious, clean and tidy with lots of things you need like washing machine, hair dryer, tea and coffee etc. Great pool and hot shower and sunbeds for all with a fantastic view. Anita, the host was very helpful and responsive to messages or calls and nothing was too much trouble for her. There is a helpful app to give info about the property from where to put rubbish to booking trips etc. Great to have two en-suite bedrooms and easy access to shower room for downstairs bedroom. Overall a lovely apartment.
What could be improved: Not a lot to say apart from the bed in the room downstairs was not at all comfortable - it basically dips in the middle! The bedding in all rooms could do with renewing - it felt a bit 'bobbly'. Given the price, which isn't cheap, there are some slightly draconian rules and fines which I wasn't expecting and could be more transparent before you choose to book. For example, if sun cream / oil gets on tiles by the pool and they need cleaning, there is a Euro 50 charge. If you leave aircon on, there is another fine - get the need not to use extra electricity for the planet but, again would be good to have this laid out up front. There is an early check in but at a cost. Was quite strange as we were allowed into the apartment which was ready for us. We left our cases and were permitted a bathroom visit but, if we'd stayed it would have been a Euro 60 charge. So, went out and came back after the 5 pm get in time. As I said, would be good to have some of this info before - perhaps it's there but I missed it.
The view and accommodation were great. Anita was a great host, very responsive and super helpful.
What could be improved: It was not clear that it was a shared pool
Perfect for our New Years celebration with cousins. It’s a beautiful property with just the right size bedrooms. Balcony on two floors with amazing view of the sea and town. We can see fireworks from our balcony. The master bedroom has a view of the sea…it was a dreamy and homey place. Fully equip, like coming home. We had a great stay.
What could be improved: nothing

Anita war eine sehr nette Vermieterin, an die man sich jederzeit bei Fragen wenden konnte. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt.
What could be improved: Alles super
The apartment feels more like a house with anything you could ever need to enjoy your holiday. It has two very large balconies with an outstanding view of the city and ocean. You can also work from the bed in the master bedroom and enjoy the ocean view as well. The whole apartment is decorated beautifully and feels very zen. The bedrooms are spacious with large double beds. every detail was thought through very well. The pool is gorgeous, you can swim or sit on the sides of the walls and it has a nice waterfall feature and has colorful lights at night that the kids loved and plenty of chaise lounges for everyone. You are 10-20 minutes walk from restaurants and shops and from the center. The parking space worked great for our large car. I would recommend it to anyone wishing for a peaceful and perfect location in Dubrovnik. Anita was a wonderful host. She was always there when we needed her with city recommendations and a car emergency, and she also gave us a delicious box of chocolates and a bottle of local wine upon arrival. It was all excellent and so much better than staying in a hotel with all of the extra space and everything else this home offered.
