You know what caught me off guard about the Rilati Palace? The name sounds way fancier than what you actually get – but honestly, that’s not a bad thing. This 3-star place sits right on Ulica Dinka Ranjine, which is basically a quiet side street that somehow puts you smack in the middle of Old Town without all the tourist chaos. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the main Stradun, but at night it’s actually peaceful enough to sleep with the windows open.

The building itself has that worn-in Dubrovnik charm – thick stone walls that keep things surprisingly cool even in July, and you can tell it’s been around forever in the best possible way. What really impressed me was how the staff actually seemed to know the city. The guy at reception (I think his name was Marko?) didn’t just give me a tourist map – he marked the back entrance to the city walls where locals skip the crowds, and told me exactly when the morning fish market wraps up so I could grab the best stuff. The rooms are pretty straightforward, nothing Instagram-worthy, but everything works and the beds are actually comfortable. The shower pressure is decent, which… let’s be real, that’s not always guaranteed in these old stone buildings.

Here’s the thing though – and this is why I’d actually recommend this place to friends – it gets the location thing right in a way that matters. You’re close enough to walk to Buža Bar for sunset drinks (about 5 minutes through the back alleys), but you’re not dealing with the street noise from all the late-night restaurant crowds on the main drag. I could hear church bells in the morning, not garbage trucks. The narrow street does mean you’ll hear conversations from people walking by, but it dies down pretty early. Oh, and good luck if you’re planning to drive here – parking is basically impossible nearby, but they’ll point you toward the Ilijina Glavica lot which is your best bet. That 9.1 rating actually makes sense when you think about it as a solid, no-nonsense base for exploring the city. It’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it nails the basics and the location is genuinely hard to beat for the price point.
