Seaside Loft

You know what caught me off guard about Seaside Loft? The name makes it sound like some beachfront place, but it’s actually tucked away on this quiet residential street called Metohijska – which, honestly, I had to ask three locals how to pronounce properly. But here’s the thing: being away from the tourist chaos is exactly what makes this place work so well.

The building itself has that renovated Dubrovnik charm without feeling like someone went overboard trying to make it “authentic.” I mean, you’re still getting those thick stone walls that keep things blissfully cool even when it’s blazing outside, but the interiors feel fresh and actually livable. The loft-style rooms are genuinely spacious – not just by Croatian standards, but like, you can actually open your suitcase without having to move furniture around. And the windows… well, you might catch glimpses of the Adriatic if you crane your neck just right, but don’t come expecting panoramic sea views. What you do get is this lovely view of local life happening on the street below, which I actually found more interesting than staring at water all day.

Location-wise, this is where the Seaside Loft really shines. You’re about a 10-minute walk from Pile Gate – the main entrance to Old Town – but you’re far enough removed that you won’t hear drunk tourists stumbling home at 3 AM. The walk takes you down some of those steep Dubrovnik streets (pack comfortable shoes, seriously), but there’s something almost meditative about that morning stroll before the city wakes up. There’s a small grocery store literally around the corner on Zagrebačka, and honestly, the coffee at the little café two blocks down is better than anything you’ll find in the tourist zone. Parking can be tricky – it’s mostly street parking in the area, so if you’re driving, maybe give yourself extra time to find a spot.

The staff here actually seem to know what they’re talking about when you ask for recommendations. None of that generic “everything is beautiful” nonsense. They’ll tell you which restaurants are tourist traps (spoiler: most of them near the main square) and which tiny konoba tucked away in Lapad is worth the taxi ride. Check-in was smooth, though I did arrive during shoulder season in October when things are generally more relaxed. I imagine July might be a different story entirely.

If I’m being completely honest, the 4-star rating feels about right – it’s not luxury, but it’s thoughtfully done and genuinely comfortable. The 8.9 rating makes sense too; you’re paying for a good night’s sleep in a great location without the premium that comes with being directly on the city walls. It’s the kind of place where you’ll actually want to hang out in your room for a bit instead of just crashing there between sightseeing marathons.
