You know what struck me first about Suncana Apartments? It’s tucked away in this quiet residential pocket of Ploče that honestly feels like you’ve stumbled onto a local secret. I mean, you’re literally a seven-minute walk from the Pile Gate – I timed it because I’m obsessive like that – but somehow you escape all the tourist chaos that swallows up the main drag. The building itself is pretty typical Croatian coastal style, nothing fancy, but it’s got that solid, unpretentious vibe that actually makes you feel more at home than some glossy hotel lobby ever could.
The apartments themselves are bigger than you’d expect for the price point, which is refreshing in a city where most places try to squeeze you into shoebox rooms. My unit had this little kitchenette that actually worked (the stovetop wasn’t just for show), and the bathroom had proper water pressure – something you learn not to take for granted after a few European apartment stays. The furnishings are sort of basic IKEA-meets-Croatian-practicality, but everything’s clean and functional. What really sold me was the balcony situation; not every unit has the same view, but if you’re lucky enough to get one facing southeast, you’ll catch glimpses of the Adriatic between the neighboring buildings, especially nice with morning coffee.
Here’s the thing about the location that the booking sites don’t really explain well – you’re positioned perfectly between two worlds. Walk downhill toward the old town and you’re in full tourist mode within minutes, but head uphill and you’re in actual residential Dubrovnik where people hang laundry and chat with neighbors. There’s this little bakery on Frana Supila street (maybe a three-minute walk) where locals grab their morning burek, and the staff at Suncana actually told me about it, which I appreciated. Parking can be tricky – well, parking anywhere in Dubrovnik is an adventure – but there are spots along the residential streets if you’re patient, and honestly, you won’t need a car much once you’re settled. The 8.3 rating makes total sense to me; it’s not trying to be something it’s not, just solid, clean accommodation in a genuinely good spot. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to feel less like a tourist and more like a temporary resident who just happens to have easy access to one of the world’s most beautiful old cities.

Great place to stay, must be able-bodied though Great location to the town. Clean and spacious apartment. Hosts were very friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: I wasn’t expecting so many steps. I found it somewhat difficult climbing them every day (but I do have a lung condition).

Great value and location Great location, less than 5 mins from old town and beach. Everything you needed inside the apartment and a nice size balcony with views for morning coffee or a final nightcap
What could be improved: Plenty of steps, but this was flagged in the property description, means that big heavy bags are not ideal.
Air con was ok but not great, but weather was well into 30s.
Lovely stay, would definitely visit again if returning to Dubrovnik. Very clean, comfortable, within a short walking distance to the old town and Banje beach to cool off. I also had a lovely garden view from my room.
What could be improved: More so just be aware that there are quite a few steps to access the property in case you have mobility issues.
Great! Location is perfect, 2 mins steps down to the Benje beach!! Within 10 mins walking distance to the old town. The owner is very helpful and welcoming :)

Superb The apartment is really cozy, this is the second time I stay at Suncana Apartments, and there is a reason why I came back. I like how it’s actually is space to cook your own dinner, and the fridge is big enough too.
The apartment is placed just outside the old town which is really convenient, as you only have to walk a short walk to be there but it’s still quiet around the apartment.
What could be improved: All the stairs 🤭

What could be improved: Trouble with the parking place if you come by car. Stairs, which is something tipical in Dubrovnik, but it becomes difficult with luggage.

What could be improved: Not really a negative, but be aware that you need to go up several sets of stairs to reach the property. Mightn’t be easy for some.

Great apartment! Clean, comfortable, and close to everything The whole apartment was really clean, the bed and pillows were genuinely so comfy. It was probably the best nights sleep I had during my whole trip. The small under counter fridge and air conditioning were also really appreciated. The apartment was in a great location, just 5-10 minutes outside of the old town and about 2 minutes from a lovely looking beach and other transport links like busses and taxis.
My host was really friendly and gave me the Wi-Fi password straightaway after showing me to my room, which I really appreciated as my phone data was intermittent at best and I’d been struggling to contact my family.
What could be improved: I initially struggled to find the apartment, though I’m sure it was just because I’d been travelling non stop for a few days already and I was pretty exhausted. There were a *lot* of steps leading up to the apartment, which obviously can’t be helped but aren’t ideal if you’re hauling luggage about, and the booking page definitely does mention steps in the description. If you’re carrying your luggage to check in, I’d just recommend trying to come into the complex from the road at the top of the hill so you can walk down the stairs, rather than coming up the steps from the beach-side road at the bottom.
The only real issue I had was a local bar playing quite loud music, but I just popped my headphones on to ignore it.
