The Bassegli – Gozze Palace
You know what struck me first about The Bassegli - Gozze Palace?
You know what struck me first about The Bassegli – Gozze Palace? It’s tucked away on this quiet little square called Bunićeva poljana that most tourists actually walk right past on their way to the main drag. I mean, you’re literally in Old Town Dubrovnik – like a three-minute walk from the Rector’s Palace – but it feels surprisingly peaceful here. The building itself is this gorgeous old stone palace that’s been converted into a boutique hotel, and honestly, they did a really thoughtful job with it. You can still see original architectural details everywhere, but it doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping in a museum, if that makes sense.
The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star place – nothing too fancy, but comfortable and clean with that classic Adriatic vibe. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, especially compared to some of the hotels closer to Stradun where you get street noise until pretty late. The staff actually knows the city well too, which sounds obvious but isn’t always the case. They gave me this perfect route for early morning photos along the city walls before the cruise ship crowds arrive – that kind of local insight you can’t get from a generic travel app. One thing to note though: parking is going to be your biggest headache (welcome to Dubrovnik’s Old Town), but they’ll sort out arrangements for you at one of the lots outside the walls.
I think what makes this place work is that it strikes this nice balance between being authentically Croatian and genuinely comfortable for travelers. You’re not getting some sterile international chain experience, but you’re also not roughing it in a pension somewhere. The location is honestly perfect if you want to explore the old city on foot – you can pop back to your room midday when it gets scorching hot in summer, then head out again for dinner. Plus, you’re close enough to walk to some of the better local restaurants that aren’t total tourist traps. The 8.4 rating feels about right to me – it’s a solid choice that delivers what it promises without any major surprises, good or bad.

What Our Guests Say
Our host was great and helped us get in easily and if we needed to ask anything he was really quick to respond and help us! The room was clean and it is literally right in the centre of the Old Town so it was perfect to get around and everything was super close by!
What could be improved: The only thing to note is that the property is above a bar, where they perform most nights so if you need to go to bed early you may hear a lot of noise. We travel and backpack a lot so were prepared with earplugs etc for the days we had to sleep at about 10pm for the early morning day trips so it didn’t bother us too much but it is worth noting if this is something that would bother you
Fabulous location, amazing to be greeted at our Uber and walked to the apartment. So much enthusiasm and pride in the place and in Dubrovnik, made us even more excited to explore!
Dominic was a terrific host. He helped coordinate our airport transfer, met us at the gates of the Old Town and walked us to the property while sharing advice on our visit. He was very responsive and helpful during our visit. The property itself was great and exactly as advertised. You cannot beat the location, which was our primary reason for selecting the property. It doesn't have much of a seating area, but that was fine for us as we don't spend much time inside and used our time to try and soak up as much of the Old Town as possible. The A/C was great and there was no real noise to speak of from the courtyard below where a farmers market and cafes were, as long as we kept the windows closed. We had an amazing experience while visiting and Dominic couldn't have been any more attentive and hospitable and made our visit to Dubrovnik extremely special.
What could be improved: My only recommendation would be to provide beach towels for swimming.
Great space, location and service.
What could be improved: Nothing. It suited our needs!
Great location and the host was excellent. The studio and two bedroom units were very spacious and the bathrooms were modern. The AC units worked very well.
What could be improved: The beds were comfortable, but the bedding was minimal and did not fit the beds very well. No safes in the rooms and no beach towels.
Great location and met by Dominik who was very helpful answering questions for what to see and do around Dubrovnik. Very clean and generally comfortable.
What could be improved: Not enough pillow to sleep on - too soft. Really need 2nd pillow. Also no fridge for milk or alcohol.
The location was amazing
The location was right off one of the main thoroughfares in Old Town Dubrovnik, right across from the port to go to Lokrum. It was centrally located with restaurants downstairs, but yet a very quiet room. The host arranged for our airport pick-up where he then met us at the drop-off point to walk us to our room giving us information about the town through out the walk (very nice touch).
What could be improved: Of course, as most every place we stayed in Croatia, there were lots of stairs to climb. I would definitely add some type of light source to the stairs as it is extremely dark at night and we had to us our phone flashlight to see.
We booked 3 separate rooms to accommodate a group of 9 people. All rooms were clean, tidy, and provided everything we needed for our stay.
Accommodation was in a brilliant location in the heart of the old town, so close to everything we wanted and needed.
Host Dominik was SO friendly and helpful, at hand to answer any questions I had and arranged transfers both ways to/from airport for us which was so helpful.
What could be improved: Although the location was fantastic, it could get a little noisy at night time due to bars and restaurants nearby, and some mornings these local places received deliveries quite early which were fairly noisy too.
