TUI BLUE Kalamota Island – Adults Only

First Impressions You know what hits you first about TUI BLUE Kalamota Island – Adults Only?

First Impressions

You know what hits you first about TUI BLUE Kalamota Island – Adults Only? The fact that you’re actually on your own private island, just a short boat ride from Dubrovnik’s Old Town. I mean, when they say “island resort,” they really mean it — this four-star property sits on tiny Koločep Island, part of the Elafiti archipelago. The moment you step off the transfer boat, there’s this immediate sense of escape that’s honestly hard to find anywhere else along the Croatian coast. It’s adults-only, which means no kids running around the pool area, and the whole vibe feels refreshingly calm.

Location & Island Life

Here’s the thing about staying on Koločep — you get the best of both worlds. The hotel arranges regular boat transfers to Dubrovnik (about 30 minutes), so you can easily explore the famous city walls and wander those marble streets whenever you want. But then you come back to this peaceful island where the biggest decision is whether to grab a drink by the infinity pool or take a walk through the pine forests. The locals I chatted with mentioned there are only about 160 people living on the entire island year-round, which gives you an idea of how untouched this place feels.

The Accommodations

The rooms are what I’d call refined without being stuffy — clean lines, plenty of natural light, and most importantly, those sea views that make you want to keep the curtains open all day. My room had a balcony that looked straight out over the Adriatic, and honestly, I spent way more time out there than I expected. The bathrooms are modern and well-designed, though nothing too fancy. What I appreciated was the attention to comfort — good air conditioning (crucial in summer), blackout curtains that actually work, and beds that don’t leave you tossing and turning.

Dining & Daily Rhythms

Breakfast here is actually impressive — they’ve got this buffet setup that covers all the bases, including solid vegetarian and vegan options, plus gluten-free choices if you need them. The continental spread includes local Croatian specialties alongside the usual international fare, and the coffee is surprisingly good. For other meals, you’re somewhat limited since you’re on an island, but the hotel restaurant does a decent job with Mediterranean cuisine. I found myself eating lighter lunches and enjoying longer dinners while watching the sunset — the pace of island life just sort of takes over.

Why Guests Love It

Look, couples absolutely rave about this place, and after staying here, I get why they rated the location a 9.4. There’s something romantic about being on your own little island, away from the cruise ship crowds that can overwhelm Dubrovnik during peak season. The infinity pool area becomes this perfect spot for afternoon drinks, and the walking paths around the island are ideal for those sunset strolls. Plus, having private parking back on the mainland (if you’re driving) removes one major headache. It’s not the most action-packed resort experience, but if you want to unwind somewhere special while still having access to one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, this place delivers exactly what it promises.

Dubrovnik’s hotels showcase Renaissance courtyards, candlelit wine cellars, and spa suites carved into ancient stone.

Everything was wonderful about our honeymoon stay here! From them scheduling a driver and water taxi to get us to the resort to the food and cleanliness of the hotel. We loved how secluded it was but also so close at the same time. Marco checked us in and was great help! Tamara helped get us squared away with visiting old town Dubrovnik and saved us so much money by telling us to book the ferry and dubrovnik pass. Martin was our server most nights and he was great fun! 10/10 would stay here again and hope to be back one day. We will make sure to tell everyone we know about our exceptional stay here and recommend it to everyone.

What could be improved: We wish there was more entertainment around the hotel. There was a trivia night I believe on Friday which was fun but literally nothing else and we only left the hotel one day.

The big thing, which probably isn't the hotels fault but should be brought to their attention was us leaving the hotel to fly out and taking a private water taxi. When we came in we reached out ahead of time to have the hotel book us a private transfer from the airport to the hotel. The taxi driver took us to the beautiful hotel docks (I believe it was the garden hotel) where a boat met us to take us to the hotel. Right before we were checking out I went to schedule another private transfer with hotel reception. I didnt catch the name of the girl working but she said she would book us the water taxi but we can just order an Uber since it would be cheaper. I told her that is not how we did it before but she insisted that was the best way. So we ordered an Uber ahead of time to schudule a pick up for us from the same dock we originally came to the hotel at. The water taxi wouldn't take us there, even though it wasn't much further. Instead he took us to an abandoned looking dock off of donja banda road. It was super weird literally nothing around and straight up hill. A little scary to be honest. He assured us we would have no problem getting an Uber and ushered us off the boat and took off. We already scheduled an Uber to meet us at the other dock we assumed we would be going since that was the same place we were originally picked up at. We tried to get our Uber driver to change route and come to us and he told us "no that was a walking trail, we can walk to him." No way in hell could we, it was kilometers away straight up hill and we had no idea where we were going and could not believe your water taxi would leave us at a walking trail with all our bags and no way to get out. We had to cancel our Uber which cost us more money.

We were at TUI BLUE Kalamota at the beginning of the season in May. Staff were super nice and friendly. Special shout-out to Tony, Ivana and Tamara for their helpful suggestions and kindness!

Had a sea view room on the top floor of one of the buildings. So relaxing and peaceful to wake up to the sound of the waves. Room was spacious and beds super comfortable. Really good food. Nice sandy, sheltered beach in front. Loved the small trails around the island and the fact that no cars are allowed.

Given the price of food and accommodation in Dubrovnik, it's a much better value to stay at TUI BLUE and make day trips on the ferry (only €3 each way!). Booked just one night but wished we could have stayed longer.

What could be improved: We had a bit of a misunderstanding about the ferry schedule and arriving on a holiday. Was unable to contact the hotel desk directly with the numbers provided. Ended up hiring a small boat to get to the island. Manager and staff were apologetic and provided an upgrade. All worked out in the end.

Note that this is an adults-only, all inclusive resort. Many people come to drink and party. Amplified music played until 1 am. Mornings are very quiet, though!

Staff were amazing
Bed was very comfy
Very relaxing
Food was nice the first 3 days then got a bit repetitive

What could be improved: Boats leaving the island was a bit tricky only 3 a day at awkward times.

The bar at the back of the resort could do with some music as it was a bit boring and closed a bit early..

Had an amazing stay at the TUI Kalamota - stayed there to celebrate our enegement and had a fantastic time. There was always live music on and a variation of foods at dinner. The Island was lovely, so peaceful and picturesque. You could get fresh towels every day for the beach/swimming pool. We opted to pay 25 euros one of the days for a bali bed this came with processo and meant you could relax without worry of where the sun loungers were positioned for the sun.

There were things to do on the island like going to the other side to see the other hotel. As well as a boat tour that took use to see the blue caves, green caves and one of the other nearby islands, this was a definite highlight of our trip! You can also take the ferry to the mainland and spend the day in Dubrovnik which we would highly recommend.

Overall an amazing relaxing time, would recommend to people who want an escape from reality and to slow down.

What could be improved: If the options for gluten free were a little bit more obvious, and possible some more gluten free desserts. If you do not have an allergy or intolerance then you will have lots of options. I did still manage to eat something every meal however it became slightly repetitive.

Location, staff, food

What could be improved: Room faced away from the sun, lighting in room was quite dark, bed. Little hard.

What could be improved: The mattress was really uncomfortable. Has a big lump in the middle. Found it difficult to sleep.

it was a fantastic experience. The meals were excellent, offering a great variety that catered to all tastes. We particularly enjoyed the daily activities, including yoga and aqua aerobics, which added a fun and relaxing touch to our stay.

What could be improved: The only downside was the ferry schedule. Make sure to plan ahead for your arrival and departure, as the ferries only run a few times a day. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for a wonderful getaway!

This island is incredibly beautiful and this hotel is located at the most comfortable beach with sand (other places have rocks). The hotel is small but very nice, rooms are spacious and renovated, and the personnel is very helpful. It is very quiet but in the evening they had live music and it was nice.

What could be improved: If you get a room at the upper villa as we did, be prepared for many steps, totally not suitable for people with mobility issues. This is not the hotel problem, the island itself is ups and downs. Also breakfast was a bit poor and sometimes the sunbeds were lacking.

Individual accommodation units were great rather than a massive hotel block
The food was excellent at every meal

Hotel is just beautiful and the island is just amazing. The rooms are very clean and great atmosphere about the hotel. We had an amazing few days. The Irish girls were brilliant they worked so hard around the hotel and provided plenty of activities for us.

What could be improved: There was no music around the pool. Wasn't a big fan of the guest service manager. I asked him about the special restaurant and he was very dismissive because we didn't book through tui. Rest of the staff were great. The reception staff were so lovely.
