First Impressions

Tucked away on a quiet residential street, Villa Dard feels more like staying at a well-connected friend’s place than a typical tourist accommodation. I’ll be honest — when I first walked up to this family-run 3-star guesthouse in Dubrovnik, I wasn’t expecting much from the unassuming exterior. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress from the street.

Location That Actually Makes Sense

Here’s the thing about Villa Dard’s location — it’s in that sweet spot where locals actually live, but you’re still close enough to everything that matters. The Old Town is about a 15-minute walk downhill (and yes, it’s uphill coming back, but honestly, after a day of sightseeing, I didn’t mind the gentle climb). What I really appreciated was having free private parking right there — if you’ve ever tried to park near Dubrovnik’s city center, you’ll understand why this is basically gold. The neighborhood has that authentic Croatian residential feel, with stone houses and narrow lanes that haven’t been completely overtaken by tourist shops.

The Accommodation

My room was simple but thoughtfully arranged, with traditional stone walls that keep things cool even during those scorching summer afternoons. The owners clearly put effort into the details — good Wi-Fi, decent air conditioning, and a small balcony where I could actually sit with morning coffee without feeling like I was on display for passing tour groups. It’s not fancy, but everything works properly, which is more than I can say for some pricier places I’ve stayed in the area.

The Family Touch

What sets Villa Dard apart is the family that runs it — they’re genuinely helpful without being overbearing. When I mentioned wanting to find a good konoba (that’s a traditional Croatian tavern, by the way) away from the tourist crowds, they pointed me toward a place in Lapad that I never would have found on my own. They also have local insights about timing your Old Town visits to avoid the worst cruise ship crowds, which honestly saved my sanity more than once.

Why Guests Love It

Look, Villa Dard isn’t going to wow you with a fancy lobby or a rooftop pool — it’s not that kind of place. But if you want a clean, comfortable base with hosts who actually care about your experience, and you don’t mind being slightly outside the tourist bubble, it works really well. The fact that couples consistently rate the location highly tells you something — it’s got that romantic, authentic Croatian atmosphere without the constant hustle of the main tourist areas. Plus, having your own parking spot means you can easily explore the stunning coastline and islands around Dubrovnik without the headache of finding somewhere to leave your car.

Dubrovnik’s apartments welcome families with shaded terraces, laundry nooks, and quick access to Banje Beach paddle boards.

Very good Staff are super nice. Rooms are very spacious. Free parking which is hard to come by

What could be improved: It’s definitely outside the city which worked for us since we needed to park; however just keep in mind it’s likely a 10 minute walk (likely 100 steps) to the walls.

A lovely, friendly place to stay in a fabulous city. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and did much to accommodate us. The air conditioning was excellent! The room was more like an apartment - very spacious, with a lovely terrace, kitchenette and a good bathroom.

What could be improved: It was quite a long walk from the old town. I may have preferred to stay a bit closer but the upside was we got a lot of exercise walking back and forth! I suspect if it hadn't been so hot when we were there it wouldn't have been an issue at all.

Superb Friendly staff, villa within the walking distance of the old town, parking is a big plus since there are quite expensive parking lots and garages near the old town.

Overall, a good place The apartment looked just like in the photos, and overall cleanliness was good. We especially enjoyed the beautiful sea view from the living room and bedroom. Towels were changed daily and beds were made, which we appreciated.

What could be improved: A downside was that the windows of the living room, one bedroom, and the terrace faced a busy main road. This took away from the peaceful sea view due to the constant traffic noise.
Also, two windows couldn’t be opened. We reported this to the reception and were told someone would come the next morning, but no one showed up. We had to follow up again in the afternoon, and only then the issue was fixed.

Superb Clean and spacious, plenty of storage space in bedroom.
Apartment cleaned daily, fresh towels.
Good wifi
Comfy bed
Very friendly managers / staff.
Location is relatively good. About 15 minutes to entrance of old town, without steps, just uphill/downhill (slightly shorter with lots of steps). Safe to walk at night.
Supermarket almost across the street.
Free parking at hotel was perfect (leaving car keys at reception made us slightly uncomfortable but all was fine).
We didn't have problems with traffic noise.

What could be improved: No elevator, difficult for third floor, especially after the many steps in the old town (though we should have been aware)
In the kitchen, the sink was leaky and when you washed dishes, floor got wet. We didn't say anything though since we didn't want to lose time with maintenance.

There wasn't much else to not like, but some suggestions for improvement.
In the kitchen, a shelf would be perfect because there was no space to leave anything. Also, a larger sharp knife.
In the bedroom, since there are no bedstands and the board at the bedhead is not enough, again, even a wooden board on each side would be useful.
At apartment door, two or three hooks for coats so they are not spread on the couch.
And, one chair in the living room can make a huge difference.

Great city stay with kids Staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. Just a 10 min walk with the kids to the wall. Really comfy and spacious and great to have two bathrooms. Staff organised breakfast to our room as we have 3 small children with early wake ups. There was a bath for the kids too which was great and a fridge. We were a bit worried about parking but the staff parked up the car and it was always accessible.

Good choice not too far from Old Town, excellent Uber service available, Paid for upgrade to an excellent room…

What could be improved: Street crossing can be a problem.

Friendly staff and fantastic location The staff was very friendly, and the location was incredible, especially with the available parking. It’s just a 10-15 minute walk to the Old Town, but keep in mind that there are some stairs along the way! Overall, a good place to stay with easy access to the touristic areas.

What could be improved: Parking it’s a little complicated at the beginning

What could be improved: No lift and we were on Level 3.

Comfortable and convenient location just up from the Old Town Very comfortable room, kindly made available for me early. Staff endlessly patient and considerate. Congenial walk down to the Old Town (though lots of steps back up!). Also very convenient to walk down to the ferry port.

What could be improved: Light sleepers should be aware that the hotel is on a main road, so there was traffic noise until late evening.
