The thing is, most tourists never venture into this neighborhood, so you get this authentic Croatian residential vibe that’s actually pretty rare in Dubrovnik these days.

The moment you step inside, you realize this isn’t your typical “luxury hotel” setup. I mean, it technically has five stars and that crazy 9.8 rating, but it feels more like staying at your incredibly well-traveled friend’s gorgeous home – you know, the friend who has impeccable taste and somehow always knows where to source the perfect everything. The rooms have this understated elegance that’s hard to pull off… think Croatian stone and wood mixed with modern touches that don’t feel forced or flashy. What really got me was the attention to detail – like, the bathroom toiletries were actually good (not just fancy packaging), and the bed linens had that perfect weight where you immediately sink in but don’t feel like you’re drowning in fluff.

The noise level is practically nonexistent, which is saying something since Dubrovnik can get pretty intense during peak season. Even in July, when the Old Town is absolutely swarming, you come back to Villa Paulina and it’s like stepping into this calm pocket of the city where you can actually hear yourself think. There’s something about waking up to the sound of locals going about their morning routines instead of tour groups that just hits differently, you know? It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay if you can swing it, because honestly, once you experience Dubrovnik from this little corner of Ploče, going back to the tourist-heavy areas feels a bit exhausting.
