You know what caught me off guard about 22 The Stradun? I was expecting another cramped Old Town hotel where you can hear every footstep through paper-thin walls, but this place actually feels substantial. The moment you step inside from that busy pedestrian street – honestly, Između Polača gets pretty hectic during peak season – there’s this immediate sense of calm that’s hard to find in Dubrovnik’s historic center.

The location is ridiculously good, and I mean that in the best way. You’re literally steps from the main Stradun thoroughfare (hence the name, obviously), but tucked just enough off the beaten path that you won’t have tour groups marching past your window at 7 AM. I stayed here in July – terrible timing, I know – and while the old town was absolutely packed, this little street felt like a secret. The staff mentioned they get a lot of repeat visitors, which makes sense once you realize how rare it is to find a place that’s both central and actually peaceful. The rooms have that boutique hotel feel without trying too hard, if that makes sense. Some of the windows look out toward the harbor area, and honestly, watching the morning light hit those terracotta rooftops never got old.

What really won me over was the practical stuff nobody talks about in those glossy travel magazines. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building – not a given in these medieval stone walls, trust me. Check-in was smooth even though I showed up during the afternoon rush when half of Dubrovnik seems to be changing hotels. The guy at reception gave me genuinely useful tips about timing my visit to the city walls (go late afternoon, skip the morning crowds) and pointed me toward this little wine bar on Prijeko that I never would have found otherwise. Sure, it’s a 4-star place with a 7.8 rating, so it’s not perfect – the bathroom in my room was a bit cramped, and you can definitely hear some street noise if you’re a light sleeper. But honestly? For what you get in this location, especially considering how impossible it is to find decent accommodation inside the old walls, I’d book it again without hesitation. The whole experience just felt… comfortable, I guess. Like staying with a friend who happens to live in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.
