The space itself feels authentically Croatian but with all the modern touches that actually matter. I mean, the kitchen has everything you need if you want to grab fresh seafood from the market near Pile Gate (about a 10-minute walk) and cook it yourself – which, let’s be real, saves you a fortune compared to restaurant prices in the old city. The bedroom gets this gorgeous morning light, and if you’re lucky enough to snag the unit with the small balcony, you can actually catch glimpses of the Adriatic between the neighboring buildings. What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night – you’re close enough to walk to Stradun in fifteen minutes, but far enough that you won’t hear drunk tourists stumbling back from the bars at 2 AM.

Here’s the thing about staying here though – you need to be okay with a bit of a climb. Janjevska Street has some steps (welcome to Dubrovnik, right?), and while it’s not Mount Srđ or anything, it’s definitely more uphill than the photos let on. But that slight inconvenience is totally worth it for the authentic neighborhood feel. Your neighbors are actually locals, not just other tourists, and there’s this little bakery about three blocks down that opens ridiculously early and makes the best burek I had in the entire city.
