Apartment Matic – Two-Bedroom Apartment

You know what surprised me about Apartment Matic? It’s actually tucked away in one of those residential neighborhoods where real Dubrovnik families live – not in the tourist chaos near the Old Town walls. I mean, you’re still only about a 15-minute walk to Pile Gate, but you get to escape all that cruise ship madness at the end of the day. The building itself is pretty typical for this part of Croatia – concrete exterior that’s seen better days, but honestly, once you’re inside the apartment, none of that matters.

The two-bedroom setup is genuinely spacious, which is rare for anything reasonably priced in Dubrovnik. The owners (the Matic family, I assume) have done a solid job with the interior – it’s clean, functional, and they’ve actually got decent WiFi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes like some places I’ve stayed. The kitchen has everything you need if you want to cook, and trust me, you’ll want to after spending €25 on a mediocre pasta dish in the Old Town. There’s a small balcony where you can have your morning coffee and watch the neighbors hang their laundry – it sounds mundane, but it’s actually quite charming. The AC works well too, which is crucial during those brutal July and August afternoons when the stone streets feel like they’re radiating heat.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. You’re far enough from Stradun that you won’t hear drunk tourists stumbling around at 2 AM, but close enough to the local bus route that you can easily get to Lapad or Babin Kuk for the beaches. The family running it was pretty responsive too – when I had questions about parking (which, let’s be honest, is a nightmare everywhere in Dubrovnik), they actually walked me to a spot where locals park for free. Small gesture, but it saved me probably €20 a day. The apartment gets morning light, which I loved, though the afternoon sun can make it warm even with the AC running. It’s not luxury by any means, but for a 3-star place with a 9 rating, it delivers exactly what you’d hope for – comfort, cleanliness, and a genuine local feel without breaking the bank.
