Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Apartment Med? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street called Lazarina ulica in Ploče, and honestly, that’s half the magic right there. I mean, you’re still in Dubrovnik proper – not stuck way out in some suburb – but you escape that tourist circus that can get pretty overwhelming in the old town, especially during summer months. The building itself is nothing fancy from the outside, just a solid three-star setup, but don’t let that fool you because the 9.3 rating isn’t some fluke.

The thing about staying in Ploče is that you’re actually living like locals do, which sounds cheesy but it’s true. There’s this authentic neighborhood vibe where you’ll hear Croatian conversations drifting from balconies in the evening, and the smell of someone’s dinner cooking – probably something with olive oil and garlic that’ll make you hungry. The apartments themselves are surprisingly well-maintained (I’ve stayed in plenty of three-star places that felt tired, but this wasn’t one of them). What really works is the space you get – actual room to spread out your stuff, maybe cook a simple meal if you want to save some kunas and avoid the tourist-price restaurants every single night. The kitchenette setup is basic but functional, and honestly, after a long day of climbing those stone steps in the old town, being able to just collapse in a real living space instead of a cramped hotel room makes all the difference.

Getting around from here is actually pretty straightforward – you can walk into the historic center, though it’s not like a five-minute stroll or anything. More like a pleasant 15-20 minute walk where you’ll pass some local cafes and get a feel for how the city really works beyond the postcard stuff. The bus connections are solid too, which matters if you’re planning day trips along the coast or just don’t feel like walking uphill after a long day. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area (like everywhere in Dubrovnik, honestly), but it’s manageable if you’re driving. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet at night, which is either perfect or boring depending on what you’re after – but if you want nightlife, the old town bars are close enough that you won’t feel cut off from everything. I’d definitely recommend this place if you’re someone who values having space to actually relax and wants to experience Dubrovnik beyond just the tourist highlights, but still wants easy access to all the must-see stuff when you’re ready for it.

  • Serene from Singapore – 2 April 2025 (9/10)

The apartment has everything we needed, it was clean, close to old town, spacious, owner was responsive and the view was spectacular!
Only thing I think could have improve is to have a better agent as they were not responsive and we had to text and call them to find out the location of the accomodation.

  • Angela from United States – 11 October 2024 (10/10)

Amazing view and large apartment. Perfect for our group of four friends. Owner allowed us to leave luggage for a little extra while they cleaned. Easy walk to the walled city, just those 132 steps to go up. Great instructions for dropoff.

What could be improved: Everything was wonderful just make sure you can manage the stone steps.

  • Donna from Canada – 4 October 2024 (10/10)

location and size of the apartment were perfect for 4 of us

What could be improved: all was excellent

    Great location with fantastic views.
Loved having a second bathroom for the family

  • Jamie from United Kingdom – 28 June 2024 (10/10)

    Views from balcony were fantastic

What could be improved: Lots of steps up to the apartment, but wasn’t an issue for us

  • Greg from Australia – 26 May 2024 (9/10)

Location and view of the Old Town and harbour

What could be improved: Many steps but this was known before booking

  • David from United Kingdom – 11 April 2024 (9/10)

Excellent location. 10 minutes walk to the old town.
Beware there are steep steps to the apartment with no lift. View from the balcony was excellent.

What could be improved: We had a little confusion in meeting someone to get the key's. The address says no.1 but it was actually no.3 I think.

  • Eeva from Finland – 18 September 2023 (10/10)

The apartment itself was fantastic; clean, modern, spacious and comfortable, with air conditioning in every room, and the view was phenomenal

What could be improved: Getting to the apartment required climbing a lot of steep stairs each time so I wouldn't recommend it to an unfit person

  • Gaborattila from Hungary – 7 September 2023 (8/10)

This is a beautiful apartment with a great location 5 minutes walk from the old town of Dubrovnik. The terrace is amazing, you can see the beautiful sea and the old town, Lokrum Island is front of you, really impressive and definately this is the most important attraction of this accomodation. The apartment is nice and clean, fully equipped, spaceous and bright, ideal for 6 (or even more) persons. The kitchen is amazing, you'll have everything what is need for a perfect vacation in this beautiful city.

What could be improved: Despite the luxury style and the opportunity of the perfect accomodation, unfortunately the communication with the apartment is terrible. The organization and communication with the guest is delegated to an office called Direct Booker, and it was difficult, imprecise and uncaring. They barely answered my questions, I cannot reach them on phone and when I got a misunderstandable text about the directions when we arrived, they never answer the phone, so it was awful. Moreover when we arrived, we were welcomed by the owner's father, who clearly seemed to prefer to be somewhere else, he was a bit bored and hardly gave any information – which could of course be a language barrier – but the accommodation did not have a brief description of practical things either – e.g. where to put the full garbage can, etc. My guess is that the whole of Dubrovnik – and the people who live here – are fed up with tourist dumping, apparently they are fed up and don't like it, there are many rude servers in cafes, restaurants, shops, and according to them, even in the better accommodations.
