You know what hit me first about Apartment Taura? The view from that little balcony – I mean, you’re literally looking out over the maze of terracotta rooftops and limestone walls that make Dubrovnik’s Old Town so ridiculously photogenic. The studio sits right in the heart of it all, which honestly can be a double-edged sword. During the day, especially in summer, you’ll hear the constant hum of tourists below, but there’s something oddly soothing about it. It’s like having a front-row seat to the city’s daily rhythm.
The space itself is pretty cleverly designed – everything you need without feeling cramped, though I’d say it’s definitely more suited for couples than families. The kitchenette is small but functional (you’ll actually be able to cook a decent breakfast), and the bed is comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with that hotel-bed stiffness. What I really appreciated were the little touches that show someone actually thought about what guests need – good lighting for reading, enough outlets for your devices, and decent water pressure in the shower. The decor strikes that sweet spot between modern and traditional Croatian style without going overboard with the nautical theme like some places do.
Here’s the thing about staying right in the Old Town – you’re within stumbling distance of pretty much everything worth seeing, but you’re also dealing with the crowds and, well, the prices that come with prime real estate. That said, being able to duck back to your own quiet space when Stradun gets overwhelming is honestly priceless. The building itself has character (translation: old stone walls and narrow staircases), so don’t expect an elevator or perfect soundproofing. But that’s part of the charm, right? You’re sleeping inside a UNESCO World Heritage site, after all. The only real downside I noticed was that finding the entrance can be tricky the first time – these old streets all look similar, and GPS gets confused with the stone walls. But once you figure it out, you’ll love having your own little perch above one of Europe’s most stunning medieval cities.
