Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Apartment Velvet? It’s tucked away in this quiet residential pocket of Dubrovnik where you actually hear birds in the morning instead of tour groups – which, honestly, is kind of miraculous given how packed this city gets. The studio setup works brilliantly for couples, and that hot tub on the terrace? Well, let’s just say after a day of climbing those ancient stone steps around the Old Town, sinking into it while watching the sunset over the Adriatic is pretty much perfection.
The space itself feels thoughtfully put together – not some cookie-cutter rental situation. I mean, it’s compact, but everything has its place, and the kitchenette actually has proper cookware if you want to grab some fresh fish from the morning market near Pile Gate. The bed’s comfortable (firm, if that matters to you), and there’s decent storage space, which you don’t always get in these Croatian apartments. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night – you’re close enough to walk into the Old Town in about fifteen minutes, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the late-night revelry that echoes through those narrow streets until 2 AM during summer.
The hot tub situation deserves its own mention because it’s genuinely nice – not one of those tiny inflatable things you sometimes see advertised. It fits two people comfortably, and the water pressure’s solid. There’s something pretty magical about soaking there in the evening with a glass of local wine (grab a bottle of Dingač if you can find it) while the city lights start twinkling below. The terrace gets good sun during the day too, so you can actually dry your swimsuit after beach trips to Banje or Copacabana. Speaking of beaches – you’re positioned well for hitting the less crowded spots like Danče if you don’t mind a bit of a walk. The host was straightforward about check-in, responded quickly to questions, and left some genuinely helpful local recommendations (not just the obvious tourist spots). Sure, you’ll need to walk up a bit of a hill to get there, but that’s Dubrovnik for you – embrace the cardio or take a taxi from the bus station. For what you get, especially with that 9-star rating reflecting real guest experiences, it’s solid value in a city where decent accommodation can cost a fortune, particularly during peak season.
