Apartments Bonavista

You know what? I almost walked right past Apartments Bonavista the first time I was looking for it on Bruna Bušića Street – it’s tucked away in this quiet residential part of Ploče that honestly feels more like where actual Dubrovnik locals live rather than tourist central. Which, it turns out, is exactly what makes this place special.

The building itself is pretty unassuming from the outside, but once you’re inside one of these apartments, you get why it’s scoring a 9.2 rating. I mean, these aren’t just hotel rooms with a mini-fridge shoved in the corner – they’re actual apartments with proper kitchens where you can make real coffee in the morning (thank god, because Croatian hotel coffee can be… well, let’s just say it’s not their strong suit). The owners clearly put thought into the details that matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two. The shower pressure is decent, there’s enough counter space to actually unpack your toiletries, and the wifi doesn’t cut out every time someone in the next room starts streaming Netflix.

What really sold me on this place though is the location – you’re about a 15-minute walk from the Old Town walls, but you’re far enough away that you’re not dealing with cruise ship crowds stumbling past your window at all hours. The neighborhood has this authentic feel where you’ll pass elderly Croatian ladies hanging laundry on their balconies and small corner shops that close for lunch break like civilized people do. There’s actually a decent bakery about three blocks down where locals grab their morning pastries, and the woman behind the counter started recognizing me after day two. You can walk to the main tourist stuff easily enough, but when you want to escape the “Game of Thrones tour group” energy, you’ve got this peaceful residential area to retreat to. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving – it’s street parking mostly, and locals know all the good spots – but honestly, once you’re settled in, you probably won’t need your car much anyway. The bus connections are pretty solid if you want to explore beyond Dubrovnik proper, and there’s something satisfying about figuring out the local bus system instead of just paying for endless taxi rides.
