I wasn’t expecting much from Apartments Paula when I first climbed those stone steps off Ulica Frana Supila – honestly, most “studio with sea view” places in Dubrovnik are either tiny boxes or have views that require you to crane your neck out the window. But this one actually delivered. The terrace is the real star here, and I mean a proper terrace, not just a glorified balcony. You can sit out there with your morning coffee and watch the ferries heading to Lokrum Island while the old town walls catch that golden light. The studio itself is pretty straightforward – clean, functional, nothing fancy but everything works. Paula (the owner) met me at check-in and gave me the kind of local tips you can’t get from guidebooks, like which konoba down the hill makes the best black risotto and when to avoid the Pile Gate crowds.

The location is actually perfect if you want to be close to everything but not right in the tourist madness. You’re maybe a 10-minute walk to the old town, but up here in the residential area it’s quiet enough to sleep with the windows open – well, except for the occasional early morning garbage truck, but that’s Dubrovnik for you. The sea view is legit too, especially from the terrace where you can see past the harbor toward the islands. I spent way too many evenings out there with a bottle of local wine, watching the sunset paint the Adriatic. The apartment gets good cross-ventilation, which matters more than you’d think in summer when it’s pushing 30 degrees. There’s AC too, but honestly I barely used it. One thing to note – parking can be tricky on this street, so if you’re driving, ask Paula about it ahead of time. She sorted me out with a spot nearby, but it’s one of those things that’s easier to handle before you arrive with your luggage.

What I really appreciated was how Paula had stocked the kitchenette with local touches – proper Croatian olive oil, some homemade fig jam, that sort of thing. It’s a small gesture but it makes the place feel less generic. The shower has decent pressure (not always a given in these old buildings), and the WiFi actually works throughout the apartment. For a 3-star place, it punches above its weight. You’re not getting marble bathrooms or room service, but you are getting a genuine slice of Dubrovnik life without the old town prices. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was traveling with someone who appreciates having space to spread out rather than being crammed into a hotel room. The terrace alone makes it worth booking – trust me on this one.
