Hotel Description

I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Art Apartment “MareSol” on Stepinca Street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. Boy, was I wrong. This little gem sits in one of those residential neighborhoods where actual Dubrovnik locals live, about a 15-minute walk from the Old Town madness (which, trust me, you’ll appreciate after battling the cruise ship crowds all day). The building itself is pretty typical for this part of town – nothing fancy from the outside – but step inside and you immediately get why this place has a 9.5 rating.

The apartment actually feels like staying in someone’s carefully curated art studio, not some generic hotel room. There’s this amazing natural light that pours in through these big windows, and I mean, the name “MareSol” makes total sense once you see how the morning sun hits the place. The owner clearly has an eye for design – there’s local artwork on the walls, and the furniture has that perfect balance of being stylish but actually comfortable to live in. You know what really got me? The little details, like proper wine glasses (not plastic hotel cups) and a coffee setup that doesn’t make you want to cry. The kitchen is small but functional – I actually cooked a few meals there using ingredients from the Gruz market, which is maybe a 10-minute walk away.

Location-wise, you’re in this sweet spot where you can walk to everything but still feel like you’re experiencing real Dubrovnik life. The neighborhood has a couple of solid local restaurants (there’s this family-run place called Konoba Dubrava just down the street that barely any tourists know about), and honestly, the walk into the Old Town is pretty pleasant – you go down through some residential streets, past where kids are playing football, and then boom, you’re at the city walls. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving, but that’s just Dubrovnik for you. The apartment is quiet at night, which is something you definitely can’t say about places inside the old city walls. I stayed there in September and could actually sleep with the windows open, hearing just the occasional scooter or neighbors chatting on their balconies. Look, it’s not luxury in the marble-lobby sense, but it’s got something better – it feels authentic and thoughtfully put together. If you want to experience Dubrovnik like you’re staying in a local artist’s apartment rather than a tourist hotel, this is your spot.

Loved staying here! Very comfortable and clean! Josip met us and was very helpful and hospitable! Easy walk to Lapad beach with lots of places to eat and rocky beach to see amazing sunsets! NOTE: lots of stairs all over! Well worth it! Also close to convenience store.
Easy to catch bus to and from Old City!

  • Danilo from Italy – 20 August 2024 (10/10)

The apartment was nice, clean and well equipped. It is close to a big beach and to a nice street full of restaurants. The host was super kind and always available, he offered us a change of towels during our stay and also laundry and bed sheet change, all free of charge. There are some stairs to do (like everywhere in Dubrovnik) but they're easily doable. The area is very calm just like the apartment itself. I would recommend it!

  • Renata from Poland – 18 May 2024 (10/10)

A very nice place to stay, close to the Adriatic Sea and the promenade. Public transport to the Old Town is available or you can also just walk along the sidewalk with a nice view. The room is well-fitted with all the necessary equipment and the host is very helpful. I will recommend it to all my friends 🙂

  • Vishwas from India – 31 March 2024 (10/10)

Clean, cosy home and beautiful garden, near to Dubrovnik old city

What could be improved: Height of the bathtub for short people😀

  • Saba from United Kingdom – 19 July 2023 (9/10)

Amazingly friendly, welcoming and informative host, great location for beach, eating out and shops, v easy to get to the Old Town.

  • Gintarė from Lithuania – 4 July 2023 (10/10)

Great location for families with children, the beach is suitable for various needs. Luxury hotels are located nearby, the environment is calm and safe. A very nice promenade, perfect for an evening stroll.
Very kind and communicative host, helpful. He prepared the apartment for us even 6 hours earlier, welcomed us, helped us carry our bags. During the stay, he even offered to wash clothes twice at no extra charge.
The apartment is simple and clean, we had enough here to enjoy a week's vacation and enjoy Dubrovnik.
I was very pleasantly surprised that everywhere is safe, there are no pickpockets in Dubrovnik, you can safely leave things on the beach unattended.

    Super host, value for money

  • Antti from Finland – 20 July 2022 (10/10)

We had great holiday here! We got couple of wine bottles from host and he washed our loundry two times wich was really nice. Communication with host worked before and during the trip just great. He helped us with many questions without delaying. We got even later checkout. Apartment itself was nice and clean. Kitchen includes really good equipment for four people and it was nice to cook food from local ingredients. Location is really nice near beach and promenade. Kids loved the turtles and it was nice that quests were trusted to care them too 🙂

  • Marine from France – 3 July 2022 (10/10)

Josip is a very nice and adaptable host, he answers very fast and welcomed us late by night.

  • Wojtek from United Kingdom – 26 June 2022 (10/10)

A lot of personal touches. You can feel the hosts really try to make it feel like home. A lot of space for the price we paid. Was expecting much smaller place in Dubrovnik! Excellent area with beautiful walks along the coast. Hosts on site are very helpful.

    What could be improved: nothing
