You know what caught me off guard about Cypress Cottage? The name totally undersells it. I mean, when I first walked up to this place on Ulica Vlaha Bukovca – which honestly sounds way more intimidating than it actually is – I was expecting some tiny, cramped guesthouse situation. But this 4-star spot is actually pretty solid, especially considering you’re in Ploče, which is this perfectly positioned neighborhood that most tourists completely overlook.

The thing about staying here is that you’re basically getting the best of both worlds without the Dubrovnik price tag madness. You’re close enough to the Old Town that you can walk there (well, it’s like a 15-minute stroll, maybe 20 if you’re taking your time), but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the absolute chaos of cruise ship crowds every single morning. The street itself is quiet – I actually slept with the windows open most nights, which you definitely can’t do if you’re staying right in the heart of the tourist zone. The 7.4 rating makes sense to me; it’s not going to blow your mind, but there’s nothing really wrong with it either. The rooms are clean, the staff knows what they’re doing, and the whole place has this comfortable, lived-in feel that I honestly prefer over those sterile chain hotels.

What I really appreciated was how the location lets you experience Dubrovnik like someone who actually lives there. There’s this little bakery about two blocks away where locals grab their morning coffee – no English menu, just point and smile – and you’ll walk past the same faces heading to work each day. The Old Town is obviously stunning and you have to see it, but after a full day of navigating those polished stone streets and dodging selfie sticks, coming back to this quieter part of town feels like exhaling. Plus, parking is actually manageable here (good luck with that anywhere near the city walls), and if you’re planning to explore the Dalmatian coast, you’re not trapped in the pedestrian maze trying to get to your rental car. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if you’re the type of traveler who wants to see the famous stuff but also wants to remember what it feels like to not be surrounded by tourists 24/7.

  The location was great. Right near the sea access. AC was located throughout the house so it was nice and cool. The staff were very helpful and prompt with getting back to me.

  The best part of this stay is the location. The outdoor patio is amazing, really close to an oceanside access and the old town.

  Location, the house itself, very practical with two bedrooms and a bathroom on each floor, and a kitchen, a livingroom and a toilet on the entrance floor. Nice terrace.
  
  What could be improved: The garden should be maintained better. It could be perfect with couple of lemon/orange trees instead of high grass and weed. It only provides a perfect home for tiger mosquitoes and unfortunatelly there were plenty of them around the house. So make sure to bring mosquito spray with you!

  What could be improved: You could not close one of the bedroom doors due to the bed was in the way. The a/c was broken in one room and it was very hot in the summer. When asked to fix it they said use a fan. It was not fixed! We almost missed our flight because the transfer house ordered was sent to the wrong address so we had to order 2 Ubers!

  What could be improved: Air conditioning unit in one of the bedrooms was not fixed prior to our stay. Temperature was almost 95°. This had been noted by the prior group. They had contacted the owners prior to our stay and told him that the AC unit did not work. We were basically told that the mechanics would not come and fix the AC unit. They simply brought fans.
  
  The refrigerator worked poorly. The freezer section did not work any better than the refrigerator. The outdoor picture suggested a very nice area to sit. In fact, it was fairly shabby.

  구시가지, 케이블카 등 접근하기 좋은 위치였습니다. 너무 더워 가족들 컨디션 생각해서 택시로 이동하긴 했지만 시원했다며 면 천천히 걷는것도 좋을만큼 위치는 좋았습니다 저희는 일정상 가지는 못했지만 해변도 가까웠습니다. 그리고 숙소 전경이 방 어디에서든 좋았어요. 심지어 화장실 창문으로 보이는 아드리아해는 절경이었습니다. 정원에 마련된 테이블에서도 즐거웠습니다. 숙소는 침실, 화장실, 부엌이 전체적으로 깔끔했습니다. 체크인 시간이 늦어 걱정했는데 리셉션에서 짐을 맡아줬습니다. 다만 리셉션과 숙소까지의 거리는 제법 있습니다.
  
  What could be improved: 슬프게도 이젠 한여름에는 2층이라도 에어컨이 필요할 날씨가 된거같습니다. 에어컨이 있는 3층과 1층은 시원했지만 2층은 밤에도 더워서 땀흘리면서 잤어요. 세탁기가 고장이나서 문이열리지 않았는데 리셉션에서 도움을 주지 않았습니다. 아마 주말과 공휴일이 겹쳐서 그런거같은데.. 그래도 세탁시설까지 고려해서 고른 숙소였는데 세탁기가 되지않아 난감했습니다. 정원에서 식사를 할 경우 모기퇴치제가 필요합니다. 다리에 엄청 물렸어요
