You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Get Garden on Rožatska ulica – I mean, it’s tucked away in this quiet residential street about a 15-minute walk from the old town walls, and honestly, the name doesn’t exactly scream “luxury hotel.” But sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t need to shout about it.

The thing about this spot is that it actually feels like someone’s really nice home that just happens to welcome guests. The owner clearly put thought into every corner – there’s this gorgeous garden courtyard (hence the name, I guess) where you can have breakfast surrounded by olive trees and lavender. I spent most mornings out there with my coffee, listening to the church bells from the nearby neighborhoods instead of cruise ship crowds. The rooms are what I’d call “thoughtfully modern” – clean lines, good lighting, and these little touches like locally-made soaps and Croatian wines in the mini-fridge. My bathroom had this rainfall shower that was honestly better than the one in my apartment back home, and the bed… well, let’s just say I had to resist the urge to ask where they got their mattresses.

What really won me over, though, was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about making your stay work. When I mentioned I was trying to avoid the tourist hordes in the old town, the front desk guy – I think his name was Marko – drew me this little map showing which streets to take for the best morning light photography and which kafić serves the strongest coffee. He was right on both counts. The location is actually perfect if you want to be close enough to walk to Stradun in fifteen minutes but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the chaos of tour groups at 7 AM. Plus, there’s this little konoba around the corner that apparently only locals know about – I never would have found it without their recommendation, and it ended up being my favorite meal of the trip.

The only minor thing I’d mention is that if you’re the type who needs to be right in the thick of things, you might find the walk back uphill after a long day of sightseeing a bit much. But honestly? That nightly stroll through the residential streets, past people’s gardens and hearing dinner conversations drifting from open windows, became one of my favorite parts of the whole experience. It felt like getting a peek into actual Croatian life instead of just the postcard version. With a 9.7 rating, I guess I’m not the only one who thinks they’ve got something special going on here.
