So I’ve stayed at a lot of places around Dubrovnik, and honestly, Luxury Villa Gina caught me off guard in the best way possible. It’s tucked away in Čerjan – which, if you don’t know the area, is this quiet residential neighborhood that feels worlds away from the tourist madness of the Old Town, but you’re actually only about a 15-minute drive down to the city walls. The thing is, most visitors never venture up into these hillside streets, so you get this authentic Croatian residential vibe that’s pretty rare to experience as a traveler.

The villa itself has this understated elegance that I really appreciate – it’s not trying too hard to be fancy, you know? When you walk in, there’s this immediate sense of calm that honestly took me by surprise. The stone and wood interiors feel substantial, like they’ve been there forever, but everything’s clearly been updated with modern touches that actually work (I’m looking at you, rainfall shower that doesn’t spray water all over the bathroom floor). What really struck me was the attention to small details – the way morning light filters through the windows, the fact that the Wi-Fi actually works in every corner of the place, and how the beds are positioned so you wake up to these incredible views over the Adriatic. The outdoor spaces are where this place really shines though. There’s this terrace area where I spent most of my evenings just watching the sunset paint the old city walls gold in the distance, and you can actually hear the church bells from the Old Town drifting up on quiet nights.

The location thing is interesting because it’s sort of the best of both worlds – you’re away from the cruise ship crowds and those narrow streets that get absolutely packed during summer days, but you’re still close enough that a quick taxi ride gets you down to Stradun or the harbor. Plus, there’s actual parking here, which anyone who’s driven in Dubrovnik will tell you is basically a miracle. The host clearly knows their stuff too – they gave me these local restaurant recommendations that I never would have found otherwise, including this family-run konoba about ten minutes away that serves the best black risotto I’ve had in Croatia. I mean, the 9.9 rating doesn’t surprise me at all because it’s those kinds of thoughtful touches that make a place memorable. If you’re the type who wants to experience Dubrovnik without feeling like you’re staying in a tourist bubble, this is exactly what you’re looking for.
