Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw “Marevia Apartment” on Cavtatska ulica, I wasn’t expecting much. The street itself is pretty quiet, tucked away in the Ploče area, and from the outside it just looks like, well, a regular Croatian apartment building. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you from the sidewalk.

The thing about this spot is that it’s actually in one of those neighborhoods where real Dubrovnik people live – not just the tourist-packed Old Town that everyone talks about. You’re maybe a 15-minute walk from the city walls, which honestly is perfect because you get to wake up to normal neighborhood sounds instead of tour groups at 7 AM. The owner clearly knows what travelers actually need because the apartment has all those little touches that make you feel like you’re borrowing a friend’s place rather than staying in some sterile hotel room. I mean, there’s proper coffee equipment (not just those terrible instant packets), the shower actually has decent water pressure, and – this might sound weird but it matters – the WiFi works in every corner of the place.

What really got me was how the whole setup just works for exploring the city. You can walk down toward the harbor area without dealing with the chaos of Stradun, or head up toward the cable car station pretty easily. There’s a decent grocery store about five minutes away where you can grab real food instead of paying tourist prices for everything. The building itself is quiet enough that you’ll actually sleep well, but you’re not so far out that you feel disconnected from everything. Actually, some evenings I’d just sit on the little balcony area with a drink and watch the neighborhood wind down – there’s something really authentic about hearing families having dinner and kids playing in the courtyard below. It’s that kind of place where you start to feel like you’re living in Dubrovnik for a few days instead of just passing through taking photos. Honestly, for the price and the experience, I get why this place has such great reviews. It’s not fancy in that Instagram-perfect way, but it’s got everything you need and that relaxed vibe that makes you want to stay longer than you planned.
