Royal Blue Hotel Overview
You know what struck me first about the Royal Blue Hotel? It’s actually tucked away on Kardinala Stepinca, which honestly most tourists never even notice – they’re too busy rushing toward the Old Town walls. But that’s exactly why this place works so well. You’re literally a 10-minute walk from Pile Gate, but you’re not dealing with the cruise ship crowds stumbling past your window at 7 AM. The building itself has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “look at me” like some of the flashier spots along the coast.
The staff here actually remembers your name after the first day, which sounds small but makes such a difference when you’re trying to figure out whether to take the bus or walk to Lokrum Island (walk, by the way – the morning light on the water is incredible). I mean, sure, it’s a five-star place so you’d expect good service, but there’s something genuine about how they handle things. They’ll quietly upgrade your room if something better opens up, and the concierge – this guy named Marko – knows exactly which restaurants in Lapad have tables available when everywhere else is booked solid. Speaking of rooms, they’ve got this modern Croatian design thing going on that actually works. Clean lines, lots of natural light, and honestly the best shower pressure I’ve encountered in Dubrovnik (which, if you’ve stayed in some of the older hotels in the Old Town, you’ll appreciate).
What really sets this place apart though is how it feels during different parts of the day. Mornings are quiet – you can actually hear the sea from some rooms, and the breakfast terrace catches this perfect early light. But then around sunset, there’s this energy that builds up as people come back from day trips to Hvar or Korčula, sharing stories over drinks. The pool area never feels crowded, even in July, and there’s always this gentle breeze coming off the Adriatic that makes the heat totally bearable. Parking is included, which might sound boring but trust me – after driving those narrow streets trying to find your hotel, you’ll be grateful for a proper garage. The location means you can easily walk to both the Old Town and the Lapad peninsula, where locals actually hang out and the restaurants are half the price. It’s one of those places where you end up extending your stay because leaving feels like too much work, and honestly, with that 8.9 rating, you’re definitely not the first person to have that thought.

The room, view, balcony, and omelet stand at breakfast.

the friendliest of hotel staff I've ever experienced. we don't normally go to hotels like this and one member of staff in particular made us feel so welcome and relaxed. room was great and spacious and view was amazing
What could be improved: for a 5 star hotel i would have liked to see more vegan stuff but it was okMaria from Ireland – 9 May 2025 (9/10)
The hotel has some amazing amenities that really made our stay special. There are several pools to choose from, including a rooftop pool and bar that's 18+ perfect for relaxing and soaking in the views. One of the highlights was the direct sea access just steps from the hotel, making it super easy to go for a swim or enjoy the beach. The buffet breakfast that came with our room was a 10/10 so many options every morning. On top of all that, the staff all around the resort were absolutely lovely and incredibly helpful, always making sure we had everything we needed.
What could be improved: One thing to keep in mind, though, is that the location is a bit remote. It’s about a 15–20 minute walk to the nearest shop, so if you need to grab small essentials like sun cream, snacks, or toiletries, it’s not super convenient. It would’ve been nice to have a little convenience store on site or closer by. Still, if you're prepared ahead of time, it's not a huge issue but worth knowing before you go.Rajiv from Australia – 9 May 2025 (9/10)
Amazing location and awesome views. Housekeeping was excellent especially Elizabeth.
The front desk could have been better. There was a lack of communication between the front desk and the restaurant regarding the inclusions. A minor hiccup well compensated by the amazing wait staff, housekeeping and awesome views.Caoimhe from Ireland – 9 May 2025 (9/10)
Cleanliness.
The view was outstanding of the ocean.
Really good public transport system outside the door.
Top class Restaurant on site.
What could be improved: When checking into reception, I didn't like that staff behind the reception desk wouldn't give you much information about how to get to or use the facilities around the hotel and times that they are open and closed. I would recommend a map given to guests for that information.Emma from United Kingdom – 4 May 2025 (9/10)
Spacious, airy room with large balcony and one of the most stunning sunset views I’ve ever had (photos added are separate days) – worth every penny to upgrade. Bed was large & super comfortable and bathroom also large and well appointed and there was plenty of storage space. I travelled with my sister & had requested a twin sea view, but all sea view are 1 bed only but the hotel had thoughtfully provided 2 quilts which is a game changer and made things much more comfortable. Staff were amazing throughout, so friendly and helpful. We had a maintenance issue during our stay that was resolved promptly. Not all facilities were available yet (rooftop bar & pool, some restaurants) as they open from May, so we didn’t experience these. Bus to old town right outside the hotel and a a beautiful promenade running outside along the stunning coastline with options for restaurants / cafes / bars.
What could be improved: Nothing to point out at allNicola from Italy – 30 April 2025 (9/10)
Everything was spot on. Great location (with direct access to the beautiful sea), staff and facilities. Especially the bad was really comfortable. Definitely recommended for the price we paid.
What could be improved: The only negative note is that not all of the facilities were open – probably cause late April was still considered low season (rooftop pool and steam bath, for instance)Daniel from Austria – 29 April 2025 (9/10)
Location great , building was refurbished clean & cosy
View was stunning
What could be improved: Door card functioned every 10th tryMirit from Israel – 27 April 2025 (9/10)
The room was big and new, The bed was comfortable. There was lot of variety in breakfast. Has a beautiful boardwalk with restaurants and bars.
What could be improved: Had to wait 10 minutes to be sitted in the breakfast room and another 15 minutes in line for omelettes .Andrew from United Kingdom – 27 April 2025 (9/10)
We loved the location of the hotel. It was fantastic sat out in the balcony with a coffee watching the ocean
