You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Apartment Elly when I first walked up to that narrow street in Lapad – honestly, the entrance is so understated you might walk right past it. But here’s the thing about this place: it’s one of those rare finds where everything just works. The apartment sits on Ulica Petra Zoranića, which sounds fancy but it’s actually this quiet residential street where locals live their actual lives. You’ll hear kids playing in the courtyard in the evening and smell someone’s dinner cooking, which I mean, that’s the real Dubrovnik experience right there.

The owners – and I’m pretty sure it’s a family operation – they’ve got this whole thing figured out. The apartment itself feels like staying in someone’s well-loved home rather than a sterile hotel room. The kitchen actually has proper knives and decent cookware (trust me, this matters when you’re buying fresh fish from the morning market), and there’s this little balcony where you can have your coffee while watching the neighborhood wake up. What really sold me though was the location – you’re about a 15-minute walk to the old town, but more importantly, you’re a 5-minute stroll to that gorgeous stretch of beach where the locals actually go swimming. The bus stop is literally around the corner, and during summer the buses run every 10 minutes or so to Pile Gate.

I stayed here in September, which honestly might be the sweet spot – still warm enough for swimming but without the cruise ship crowds. The apartment stays surprisingly cool even during the day, and the noise level is perfect. You get just enough street life to feel connected to the neighborhood, but it’s quiet enough that you’ll actually sleep well. Parking can be a bit tricky (it’s Croatia, after all), but the hosts gave me very specific instructions about the free spots nearby, and it worked out fine. The 9-star rating makes total sense to me – this isn’t luxury in the marble-and-champagne way, but it’s luxury in the “everything works exactly as it should” way. If you’re the type who wants to experience Dubrovnik like you’re temporarily living there rather than just passing through, this is your spot.
