Hotel Description

You know what really gets me about Old Town Top Spot Apartments? The name sounds like something a tourist trap would slap on their sign, but honestly – this place delivers on that promise in ways that’ll surprise you. I mean, we’re talking about a spot right on Palmotićeva ulica, which puts you literally thirty seconds from Stradun (that’s the main drag everyone walks down) but somehow manages to feel tucked away from all the cruise ship chaos.

The thing about staying in Dubrovnik’s Old Town is that you’re either dealing with paper-thin walls and zero privacy, or you’re paying through the nose for something fancy that feels more like a museum than a home base. These apartments sort of thread that needle perfectly – they’ve got this restored stone thing going on that actually feels authentic, not like someone just slapped some fake medieval vibes on a Holiday Inn. The owners clearly know their stuff because they’ve managed to soundproof the place properly, which is no small feat when you’re dealing with 14th-century walls. I was expecting to hear every conversation from the street below, but honestly, once you close those heavy wooden shutters, it’s surprisingly quiet.

What really sold me was the practical stuff they get right. The kitchenette actually has everything you need (not just a sad mini-fridge and a broken coffee maker), and the bathroom has proper water pressure – you’d be amazed how many places in the Old Town struggle with that. The AC works without sounding like a helicopter, and there’s enough storage space that you’re not living out of your suitcase for a week. Plus, and this is key, they give you actual local recommendations that aren’t just “go to this overpriced restaurant near the harbor.” The host mentioned this tiny konoba tucked behind the cathedral that I never would’ve found otherwise – best seafood risotto I had in Croatia, and it was half the price of the tourist spots.

The location thing is honestly hard to overstate. You’re close enough to duck back for a siesta when the afternoon sun gets brutal (and trust me, it does), but you can also slip out early morning before the day-trippers arrive and have places like the city walls practically to yourself. I watched the sunrise from the apartment’s little balcony area with a coffee, and it felt like having a secret view of the Adriatic that nobody else knew about. The narrow streets can get pretty intense during peak season – we’re talking shoulder-to-shoulder crowds by 10 AM – but being able to retreat to a space that feels genuinely peaceful makes all the difference. That 9.7 rating isn’t just people being nice; it’s because someone finally figured out how to make Old Town living actually livable.

  • Tony from United Kingdom – 17 May 2025 (10/10)

Excellent location, easy to get to, very informative and helpful host.
We stayed 5 nights and used the kitchen for breakfasts. Everything we needed was there.
The Old Town is noisy everywhere unless you want to climb a _lot_ of steps, this apartment has triple-glazed windows which shut out pretty much all street noise, and only a few steps inside. With AC in the living room and bedroom, keeping the windows closed was no problem.
Host also offers airport transfer, for which we paid 48euros each way.

What could be improved: There appears to be a hostel upstairs which got a bit noisy occasionally, but quiet overnight.

  • Ebeth from United Kingdom – 4 May 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful clean apartment with all facilities you could want. Loved the location, right in the heart of Old Town with great bars and restaurants literally metres outside the door (but windows and shutters cut out any disturbing noise!). No major steps to reach it, just a little slope up a side street off Stradun. Very clear communications with owner.

What could be improved: Nothing to dislike – absolutely perfect!

  • Peggy from United States – 30 October 2024 (10/10)

It was a lovely property right in the heart of Old Town. The host was quite helpful in sending notes, etc. The way we entered however was not the right way as it was at night.. if you follow her instructions, you won’t have all the stairs we had .

What could be improved: It is definitely noisy. Tables right under the windows. Because it was shoulder season we like to sleep with the windows open and not turn on the air. This really was not possible for my companion – I wear earplugs and sleep with a sound machine next to me, which did work.

  • Youngeui from South Korea – 12 October 2024 (9/10)

The host was very kind and answered my questions right away. He also looked up information for me and gave it to me. The location of the accommodation was convenient and nice because it was in Old Town.

  • Kellie-ann from Australia – 8 October 2024 (10/10)

Excellent location with great instructions from a very accommodating host. We really enjoyed our time here and would definitely stay again.

  • Goran from Australia – 20 July 2024 (10/10)

Great communication by the host. Clear visual and written instructions, best communication I experienced from a host. Apartment is very comfortable in size for a family of 4 and in a very central old town location.

  • Cecile from United States – 12 June 2024 (9/10)

Excellent location short walk from Pile gate. Also centrally located to access many of the sites in Dubrovnik. It was fun to feel ‘at home’ in an historic area. Apartment was super clean, modern and spacious and surprisingly quiet even with restaurants around. Anita was very helpful and friendly in guiding us through getting in to town before check in and was quick to respond to any questions.

What could be improved: Nothing. Apartment exceeded expectations.

  • Tomoko from Japan – 3 May 2024 (10/10)

Apartments have an entrance in front of the stairs on the street, so you don't have to go up the stairs outside. There are stairs for one floor after entering the building, but it is not steep and the number of stairs is small.

The room was very clean, and it was very convenient that we could go back to our room during the day to leave our luggage and eat what we bought for lunch.

The owner, Anita, was very helpful. We asked many questions beforehand, but she answered everything and it was very helpful.

There were several restaurants she recommended, and we went to three of them, all of which were reasonably priced and delicious."Thanks to Anita, my stay in Dobrovnik became very nice.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Mike from Australia – 24 April 2024 (10/10)

The location was great, close to the Pile Gate and no noisy bars or restaurants, (though still near enough to have a close foray). The facilities were great. Especially liked having a toaster for a change.

What could be improved: It was all good.

  • Vicki from Australia – 22 October 2024 (8/10)

Our stay at the property was nothing short of exceptional! The location is unbeatable, situated just a 5-minute walk from the iconic Pile Gate. The check-in process was seamless, complete with detailed instructions and a helpful video guide that made finding the apartment a breeze.

We were delighted to discover that there were no external steps to climb to reach the apartment, and the 20 internal steps were manageable with a convenient landing halfway. The apartment itself was immaculate, equipped with everything we could possibly need for a comfortable stay.

Communication with our host was stellar from start to finish. They were responsive and attentive, ensuring that all our needs were met. Despite being so close to Old Town, the street noise was minimal and didn't disrupt our sleep at all, however, make sure your windows are all closed as the city wakes up very early and you will hear as restaurants start to open and people start to move about the city and/or head to the airport.

We highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a convenient and comfortable stay near the heart of the city – it's truly a gem.
